Peter Walukiewicz Obituary

Walukiewicz, Peter David
Peter David Walukiewicz, 58, of Torrington, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2021 from Covid-19 complications.
Born on March 29, 1962 in Bridgeport, CT, he was the son of the late Joseph Peter and Rita (Lipiec) Walukiewicz and he was raised in Milford.
Peter graduated Platt Technical High School (Electrical), Class of 1980. An avid movie lover, (particularly of "b-movies" which were only known to Peter and his brother, Joseph) he eagerly started a career as a projectionist at Showcase Cinemas in Orange, a position which expanded to several other theaters over the years. In 1985, he began working at Sikorsky Aircraft where he steadily rose through the ranks to the position of Aerospace Inspector, a position he found both very challenging and rewarding. He especially enjoyed the times he and his team travelled down to West Palm Beach to share their expertise.
One of the happiest moments in Peter's life was the birth of his son, Matthew in 1994. Together they shared many adventures including multiple trips to Disney World and attending various Japanese animation conventions, of which they were both fond.
Although Peter had moved to Torrington, his heart always remained in Milford. He enjoyed attending the annual Milford Oyster Festival and volunteering with the Milford Jaycees -- especially participating in their annual Haunted House. In his spare time, he enjoyed walking at Silver Sands beach, sailing and attending concerts of all kinds, from Anne Murray to Elton John and The Rolling Stones … and of course, he loved attending movies.
Those who knew Pete described him as "generous," and he had a "heart of gold" To this list his sister would like to add, "dedicated", as he drove a very long commute to work every day, even if the weather was bad. Finally, his son would mention that he was "selfless", as he always did what was best for his job, his friends, and his family, even if he was going through hard times himself.
Peter is survived by his son, Matthew Walukiewicz of Torrington; his sister, Wendy Petrillo and her husband, Paul, of Middletown; his niece, Renee Pruitt of Weaver, Alabama and her family; his sister-in-law, Amy Konowitz of Milford; his Uncle James Abicunas of Ringtown, PA, and several cousins including Carol LaBounty (George) of Oxford; Jim Abicunas of Ashland, PA and Sue Danne of Aiken, SC. In addition to his parents, Peter was predeceased by his brother, Joe.
All services will be private; burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Milford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Connecticut Fund for the Environment (Save Our Sound), The Film Foundation, or to the Yale's Smilow Cancer Hospital. The family is being compassionately cared for by the staff at Cody-White Funeral Home 107 Broad Street, Milford, CT 06460.
