PHILIP CURTO Obituary

CURTO, PHILIP A. Philip A. Curto, 85, of Wilton, CT, died peacefully in Norwalk Hospital on October 4th. He was born in the Bronx, NY July 6th, 1929 and was a loving and devoted son of the late George and Loretta (Ippolito) Curto. Phil’s passion for construction began when he worked with his father replacing and repairing roofs in his father’s roofing business. In 1948, he felt the need to serve his country and enlisted with the U.S. Marines. He served from 1948 until 1952, during the Korean War conflict, studied Mechanical Engineering, and was honorably discharged as Master Sergeant. When Phil returned home, he attended City College in Manhattan taking Civil Engineering classes. He continued to help his father in the roofing business while expanding into home repair and reconstruction projects. He also tried several other business ventures, but his love of architecture and building was his main motivation. In 1967, he moved to Stamford and began a partnership, building condominiums, the ‘new housing’ in the 70’s. He helped to construct and general contract quite a number of condo complexes in Stamford, imparting his vast knowledge, skills, and strong work ethic wherever he worked. Phil’s family was very important to him and his love and loyalty were great examples of his dedication to them. He received much joy from his grandchildren and loved the times he spent with them. He is survived by his brother, Daniel Curto and wife Ann, and his sister, Frances Curto Lordi and husband Anthony, his three children - Dolores Curto of NY, Debra Curto Black and husband Stephen of CT, Peter Curto and his wife Cyndi of CT, and five grandchildren, Zachary and Rachel Black, and Lindsay, Gabriela, and Drew Curto. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, October 8. 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in the Jesse Lee Memorial United Methodist Church, 207 Main St., Ridgefield with the Rev. Dr. William B. Pfohl, Senior Pastor, officiating. Entombment will take place in Ferncliff Mausoleum, Hartsdale, NY with military honors.

Dear Debbie and Pete. Can´t believe seven years have passed. Louise and I split our time between Florida and New Hampshire. I think of your dad quite often. Every time I´m stuck on a project I´ll say to Louise "Now how did Phil tell me how to do this". Hope all is well.

Dear Cousins Delores, Debbie, Stephen, Peter, Cyndi and kids.
Although I could not be there I want to tell you how sorry I am. As you know I loved dad very much. I will miss him a great deal. I think about you all very often. Your dad was a great man and a fantastic, loving uncle. I am sure that right now he is talking to God about putting a new roof on Heaven.
I love you guys and I hope to see you all soon. Love, Cousin Georgie

Pete and Debbie, so sorry to hear about the passing of your dad. He was great guy,but tough when had to be with us kids. My fondest memories of him were him watching Pete and I play catch as Federal LL go-getters at the old house behind SHS. R.I.P. Mr. Curto

Dearest Debbie, Peter and Families: I want to express to you my most heartfelt sympathy. Your Dad was a wonderful person, talented and loving. I know that you and your families have suffered a great loss. Many times our lives are darkened by disappointments, suffering and pain that we lose faith in the Lord. We must always remember that God is always with us and makes his presence felt when we open our hearts to welcome Him in our lives. Your grief is shared by many. Love, Lorraine LoSchiavo (George and Melissa Curto's Aunt). xoxo

Debbie and Pete, so sorry. As you know your dad was a dear friend and always there for us. He had a glimmer in his eyes when he talked about you two. We talked about life a lot and he was so proud of you. He was truly one of a kind.

To the family,
I was your dads barber for many years. He was a wonderful man and really loved his family. It's been many years since I've seen him. May he rest in peace and his memory be eternal.
