Ralph Carlo Obituary

Ralph B. Carlo
Ralph Bruce Carlo, born on December 14, 1937, in New Haven, Connecticut passed away peacefully on December 19, 2024, at the Guilford House, where he resided the last two years. He previously lived in East Haven with his late wife Eileen Hart Carlo, sharing a 50-year marriage until her passing in June 2013.
He was preceded in death by their infant son, Anthony Robert Carlo, along with his parents, Ralph Raymond Carlo and Mary (Cicio) Carlo. Ralph also mourned the loss of his sister, Lucille Havranek, and her husband, Thomas Havranek.
He is survived by his loving children: Ralph Carlo (Jennifer), Michael Carlo (Diane), John Carlo (Diane), and Lynn LaFogg. Ralph took immense pride in his granddaughters, Crystal Carlo, Alyssa McCormack, and Sydney Carlo, with whom he shared a special bond. He also leaves behind his dear brother Robert Carlo (Bridget) and six nieces, their families, and a multitude of friends who will remember him fondly.
Ralph was proud of his four years of dedicated service in the Marine Corps, keeping honor and commitment throughout his life. He began his professional journey at Winchester Repeating Arms and held various positions at different companies over the years, one of his favorite jobs was playing the original talking Rudolph at Vinny's Garden Center in Wallingford. His final role was working in housekeeping and maintenance at Laurel Woods Skilled nursing facility in East Haven.
An avid organic gardener, Ralph loved spending time outdoors, embracing his identity as a self-proclaimed beach bum. He had a unique talent for transforming found objects into yard art and sculptures in his gardens. Ralph also loved watching UConn Men's and Women's basketball over the years, especially trips to the Madison Square Garden.
However, his greatest joy came from being a grandfather; he and Eileen devoted much time going to all of their sports and school events and he also created personalized journals and scrapbooks for each of his three granddaughters, capturing precious memories and his humorous personality.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday December 22, 2024 at Iovanne Funeral Home, Inc. 11 Wooster Place in New Haven from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A graveside service accompanied by military honors to pay tribute to his service to the nation will be held Monday December 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Cemetery, 700 Middletown Ave. in North Haven. Please meet at cemetery office at 10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or Giving Asha.org, honoring Ralph's legacy of compassion and commitment to helping others.
