Ralph DeFonzo Obituary

DEFONZO, RALPH J.
Ralph J. DeFonzo, 91, a longtime resident of West Haven, entered into eternal rest September 20, 2011. He was the beloved husband of almost 70 years of Virginia DeRosa DeFonzo. Ralph was born in New Haven on November 8, 1919, son of the late Paul and Maria Palladine DeFonzo. Devoted father of Diane (Robert) Nehrkorn, Paul (Diane) DeFonzo and Dolores (Cliff) Ennico. Proud grandfather of Christopher and Jennifer DeFonzo and Duffy, his grandchildren's dog. He was predeceased by his brothers James and John DeFonzo and sisters Molly Sabatino, Rose Culligan and Virginia Douglas. Ralph retired from U. S. Electrical Motors and then worked for the West Haven Board of Education until he was 81 years old. He had a love of travel and family gatherings, gardening and grocery shopping. He was most proud in 2006 when both he and his wife received from Mayor John Picard, West Haven's Best Blue & Bright Beautification Award, a testament to Ralph's attention to detail and meticulous care of his home. He was an avid UCONN Women's Basketball fan. All who knew Ralph knew of his wonderful smile and sense of humor, his bright blue eyes and his deep religious devotion. Ralph's family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Charles DiSabatino and his staff, as well as Eileen and Faroog Khan, Genine Tannoia, and their wonderful staff at Montowese Health and Rehabilitation Center for their exceptional, compassionate care.
The hours for visitation will be SUNDAY (today) from 4 to 7pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. His funeral procession will leave the funeral home MONDAY morning at 9:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Paul's Church at 10:00. Interment with military honors will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Should friends desire, contributions may be made to St. Lawrence School, 231 Main Street, West Haven, CT. 06516.
