Not long after I graduated from Law School, Richard Banbury took me to lunch with Proloy Das to discuss appellate advocacy and appellate practice. Richard continued to support and encourage my early career and accomplishments and God knows it was support and encouragement I really needed. I regret that I fell out of touch with him. But, I always cherish that when he visited my home for an event, he said to me, "Joe, I'd much rather be talking about tomorrow's Connecticut Supreme Court case with you [than the event.]" (Paraphrased.) What an honor for a recent law graduate! My sincerest condolences to his friends, families and loved ones.
Thank you, Richard.

Dear Nicolette, Mike, Tony, Jen, Andrea, Samantha, Thomas and family, I was so sorry to learn of Richard's passing. I remember him well as a loving and supportive father to Mike, Tony, Jen and Andrea during their Kingswood Oxford days, and, in more recent years, he and I corresponded regularly regarding my language column in the Hartford Courant. He was a thoughtful, brilliant and deep thinker, and a terrific writer who loved words as much as I do. I know that he helped to shape all of your lives as well as those of many others like me. We all share your loss. Please accept my deepest condolences.

We have lost a good and gracious man. Richard was a mainstay in town Democratic politics for decades, always active, always creative, always positive. In recent years his illness curtailed his community involvement, yet those of us who had worked with him and had so enjoyed his company continued to feel both his presence, and his absence. We have missed him, and news of his death heightens that emotion. We and the Town of Marlborough mourn the passing of this true friend.

I practiced law with Richard for some years and he was a gracious mentor as I began my legal career. Richard invited me to consider moving to Marlborough which my wife and I did in 1991. Soon as I moved into town, Richard asked me to serve a Democratic vacancy on the Board of Finance and I did so - it lasted about 10 years and other Boards followed. Richard served on Marlborough Boards as well for decades. Richard was a brilliant lawyer and dedicated public servant to the Town of Marlborough and the State of Connecticut. He was also one of the kindest and most gracious friends anyone could want. Rest in peace, my friend. To his wife, Nikki, and all the Banbury family, I extend my heartfelt condolences.
