Richard Damiani Obituary

Damiani, HONORABLE Richard A. The Honorable Richard A. Damiani, Superior Court Judge, 66 of North Haven, died July 9, 2012, at the Hospital of St. Raphael. He was the husband of Anna Marie Bonito Damiani and father of Asst. State's Atty. Stephanie A. Damiani (Jason Lovallo, husband) He was born in New Haven Jan. 25, 1946, son of the late Julia Adinolfi Damiani and State Senator and City of New Haven Court Judge Atty. B. Fred Damiani. Besides his wife and daughter he leaves 2 brothers Robert & Frederick and many close family & friends. Richard graduated from Notre Dame H.S. in 1963. Later that year he entered Providence College where he was elected to Delta Epsilon Sigma, a national scholastic honor society for Catholic colleges, and graduated cum laude in 1967, receiving a B.S. degree. He then enrolled in UCONN Law School and in 1970 received a degree of Juris Doctor with honors. On Sept 22, 1970, Richard was admitted to practice law in the State of CT and on Nov. 2, 1970 he was admitted to the Federal Bar of the District of CT. In Jan. of 1971, he was appointed a full time assistant prosecutor of the former 6th Circuit. In June of 1976, he then resigned this post to enter the general practice of law and became an associate with the law firm of Greenberg & Costa later becoming a general partner in Jan. of 1977 of Greenberg, Costa & Damiani. On Nov. 5, 1985, Atty. Damiani was appointed a Superior Court Judge for the State of CT. by then Gov. William O'Neill. Judge Damiani presided over countless criminal cases and always ruled with compassion and fairness. He lived his life by the motto that "You always have to do the right thing." He loved his profession, but above all he loved his family the most. He had a personality that would light up any room and touched so many people. He will be truly missed by all. Our family would like to thank all of the staff at the Hospital of St. Raphael's special intensive care unit, especially Dr. Marko Lujic & Nurse Deanna Lujic. They were there for us in the worst moment of our lives and their kindness will not be forgotten. Family & friends are invited to go directly to Our Lady of Mt. To The Damiani Family.. I was deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a great Jurist, and one of the most honorable men I've had the privilege to meet. Judge Damiani was my sentencing judge. He was stern, but both fair and reasonable. The State of CT has lost an incredible man. His boots will be hard to fill. My deepest condolences

To the family...I was saddened to hear of the death of Judge Damini. I worked with him closely with young people from a drug program and he was the most loving and compassionate person. I pray that God wraps his loving arms of comfort around the entire family and just thank you for sharing his life with so many others.

When I was a law school intern I was told to go to Judge Damiani's court to watch and learn. I knew enough, even then, to know I was watching, not just a good judge, but a great one. What a wonderful human being; a great loss to the legal profession and even greater loss for our community. I extend my deepest sympathy to his family.

i was last before Judge Damiani on Thursday, and am deeply saddened by his passing. he was quite simply "the best" at his judicial role with many judges copying his style. when i first was before him in Hartford 20-22 years ago, i thought that i had met the ultimate tough guy....and, figured this will be a bad year for my criminal clients!! of course, it was quite the contrary, as he treated both counsel and the accused with respect and compassion. where did he get that memory from? he remembered my kids' names and schools after i mentioned them once in passing. one of my fellow practitioners suggested that the judge should have been a CEO of some major corporation with his "persuasive ways"!! what a guy! again, my condolences

Judge Damiani was larger than life. In a business where most become jaded within years, he brought passion and humor to the end. I echo the sentiments of many when I say no one has taught us more about practicing law. He made us all better at our trade and better people. To the Damiani family, I offer my deepest condolences. We have all suffered a great loss, but none matches that of a husband or a father.

To Judge Diamiani's family....I share my condolences with my entire family, to yours. Words are just not enough to express our devestation. My parents' Faye and Bob Muti (deceased), had known Your husband and father, for thirty five years. They retained him as their attorney, in 1979 and my mom always used to comment "if I had a son, I would want him to be just like Richard." She and my dad would be in shock as you are. I will pray for all of you, and keep the memory of Judge Richard Damiani alive in my heart forever. He truly was "one of a kind and needless to say, sadly missed by all who knew him, and those lives he touched everyday.
