Richard Donohoe Obituary

Richard J. Donohoe, 86, passed away after a brief illness on July 10, 2017. He leaves behind his wife Dorothy, son Christopher and daughter-in-law Fiona and grandson Jake of Hamden. Born in Malone, NY he was a graduate of Union College and New York University. In 1953 he enlisted in the United States Army and served overseas in Korea. He was a buyer and national retail sales manager for Sears, Roebuck and Co., based in New York. He then became a national merchandise manager for the National Bellas Hess Corp. of Kansas City, and then came to Connecticut as marketing director for the Giltex Company of North Haven. In later years, he owned a retail lighting store together with his wife, and was the principal in a business brokerage firm. For fifteen years he was a fulltime faculty member of the business school at Southern CT State University. Retiring in 1996, he and his wife split their time between Branford and Fort Myers, Florida. Over the years he acted as chairman of the education committee of the New Haven Chamber of Commerce and vice-president of the Sales and Marketing Executives of New Haven. He served as president of the Maplewood (NJ) Glee Club, the University Glee Club of New Haven, the Branford United Way, and the Visiting Nurses Association of Branford. He was a longtime member of Pine Orchard Yacht and Country Club. There will be no calling hours. Services will be private and at the convienence of the family.
