Richard England Obituary

Richard William England Sr.
BRANFORD - Richard William England Sr., 84, of Guilford, a longtime employee of the New Haven Register, died March 2, 2026, at Connecticut Hospice. He was the husband of Sheila Rubin England. Dick was born Dec. 28, 1941, in Medina, Ohio, to Everett O. and Marian Bagley England.
Besides his wife, he is survived by children, Kathleen England and her spouse, Lisa Lumbruno, of Mansfield Center, Conn., Richard W. England Jr. and his spouse, Pamela England, of Branford, Conn., Hillary Anne England of Pflugerville, Texas, and Samuel England of Shelton; granddaughters, Samantha and Jane England of Branford; and sister, Delora Letterly of Wadsworth, Ohio. He was predeceased by his sister, Deborah Van Nostran of Ohio.
Dick began his career in journalism as a photographer at the Barre, Vt., Times Argus and then the Brattleboro Reformer Newspaper in Brattleboro, Vt. From there, he joined the staff at the New Haven Register in New Haven, Conn., where he served in a variety of capacities, including photographer, a photo editor, production editor, wire editor and news editor.
Dick was an avid reader and loved to do crossword puzzles. He enjoyed boating, fishing and playing pinocle. He was a longtime member of the East Haven Stoners Club.
