Richard "Dick" Strong
Richard S. "Dick" Strong Jr., age 80 of Bethany, passed away on June 11, 2023, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of 33 years to Mary Ann (Forte) Strong. He was born on October 4, 1942, in New Haven, son of the late Richard S. and Florence (Millican) Strong. Raised in Woodbridge, he graduated from Amity High School in 1961. After graduation, he went to the Connecticut School of Electronics. Dick joined the Air Force Reserves and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He spent his career working for Hungerford Pump in North Haven as a pump engineer and was honored last year by Brandon Rowley for 49 years of excellent service with great respect from customers and peers. Dick enjoyed going on trips with his wife and closest friends to Maine and New York State and to Giseppes on Friday nights. Everyone that knew him will miss his caring smile and the love he extended to all. Dick is also survived by his stepdaughter Dorothy Onofrio, sister Adele Geisel, brother James Strong, and stepsisters Bernice Corliss and Vivian Louerson. He was predeceased by his grandparents Clifford and Mary Strong and James and Mary Millican, sisters Audrey Williams and Ethel Strong, stepson David Onofrio, stepdaughter Susan Fisher, and his best friends Bruce Dopkins, John Ford, George Rumbolt, and Joseph Gordon. The family would like to give a special thanks to the hospice staff, Carolyn and Cliff Forte for all you have done to make life easier, and to Tommy Sandoro and Brendan Rowley for always being there with helping hands and rides to the hospital. Friends are invited to greet the family on Thursday from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth Street, Derby. His funeral service will follow in the parlor at 6:00 pm.
