Robert Boran Obituary

Boran, Robert H.
Robert H. Boran, age 74, a lifelong resident of Ansonia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday evening, December 7, 2020, in the comfort of his home, with his loving family by his side, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of 48 years to Marlene Hirschorn Boran. Bob was born in Derby on October 9, 1946, son of the late John and Frances Panitz Boran. He graduated from Ansonia High School in 1964 and went on to Southern Connecticut State University where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1970 and a Master of Science Degree in 1972. Bob went on to teach at Willis School in Ansonia, CT before pursuing his passion for cars in 1976 with his brother Butch to form a partnership and open Boran Bros. Auto Body in Shelton, CT. The business successfully ran for 30 years, until their retirement in 2006. Bob continued his love of learning and in 1989 he received another Master Degree in Computer & Information Science from the University of New Haven. Bob also always looked forward to Opening Day fishing weekend in Riverton, CT, where for over 40 years he enjoyed time with his brother and many close friends. A devoted communicant of St. Joseph Church in Ansonia, he served as a member of the Parish Council, an usher, and volunteer at monthly Bingo and the annual picnic. He was a member and former officer of Polish Falcons Nest 36 and former member of the Ansonia Library Board and Ansonia Board of Apportionment and Taxation. Bob also founded and coached the Ansonia Angels girls fast pitch softball team and coached Ansonia Recreational girls' basketball. Bob was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who always put the needs of others before his. As a father, he attended every game, ceremony, and event his daughters had and supported them in all endeavors. As a husband, he was devoted and loving always available to provide a helping hand, advice when asked, or a joke to lighten the mood. Bob enjoyed spending time with his grandkids who lovingly referred to him as Dziadzio. He also had the best times traveling with his wife and their best friend, Lorraine, to UCONN Women's Basketball games, the casino, and several vacations. In addition to his wife Marlene, he leaves to cherish his memory, loving daughters, Kimberly Rihel (Thomas) of Southington and Kelly Blanchard (Carl) of Milford, grandchildren, Hailey and Lucas Rihel and Ryder and Lennon Blanchard as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his brother, John "Butch" Boran. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the family has chosen a private service at this time. A celebration of Bob's life will be announced in the future when we can all safely gather. The SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia has been privileged with the arrangements. Contributions in Bob's memory may be made to Connecticut Hospice Home Care. Knew him as "Little Joe" when he drove a taxi for my dad. Just a great guy. Funny, full of life. He was 5 years older than me, but he always made me feel welcome and would let me ride in the cab with him.
My deepest condolences. A life well lived.

Dear Mrs Boran, Kim, and Kelly. I am so sorry and saddened by your loss. To me he was of course Coach Boran. I spent many hours over many years with him and Kelly practicing and playing softball. Whether it was hopping into his car to go to the batting cages, the Polish Falcons, or heading to the field, he was always there to encourage and help me to get better. He put some much time and effort into helping us as well as many others. Being part of his Ansonia Angels team was my first taste of real softball. Because of him, I was able to be part of the Ansonia girls softball team for 4 years. Thanks so much “Coach”!! I truly will remember you forever.
Love,
Jeanine

“The Garage”: An absolute staple of my childhood. Especially on “sick days” from school. A quick stroll up River Rd. (In a Purple Plymouth Acclaim that Bobby bought for my grandfather at the auction) awaited soup from the lunch truck, the smell of paint, compound, and cigarette smoke. The Kelley Blue Book (when it was still a book) was always on hand; top shelf to left over the desk; to help solve whatever used automotive pricing mystery “Uncle Eddy” had brought to the boys that day and always friendly conversation and sage wisdom from the Brothers Boran.

“They won’t let you get a V8 huh? Hmm try this; Tell your parents whether 4 or 8 cylinders they all go the same speed In the end; it’s just how fast they can get you there!”

Never once; in all the years did I ever walk through that door; to anything other than smiling faces. 30 years doing what they loved in the company of those they loved.

My deepest sympathy’s, heartfelt thoughts, and warm memories. We can all rest assured; that whatever God drives it’s getting that dent pulled and a nice new shine to it as we speak.

So sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. Please accept our heartfelt condolences.
We always enjoyed sharing a few laughs at the parish bingo, and for years he was our go-to man for any auto body work.He was the best.

Bob was a man who wore many hats. To Marlene he was the love of her life, a confidant, an advisor, a chauffeur, the butt of his straight-faced jokes, the recipient of her sometimes cooking disasters. And she loved it all!

To his daughters, Bob wore a coach's hat, a fan's enthusiasm, a playmate in their youth, a banker, fun-loving prankster, and, when necessary, the police patrol. But mostly, he wore an expression of pride hard to match.

To his grandkids, Bob wore a tin-foil hat-anything they made for him no matter how outlandish, he'd wear. Every gift was special and time with them savored with gusto.

To me and Marty, Bob wore one hat: Is there a great brother-in-law hat? Maybe not, but his good nature, integrity, honesty, work ethic, and an uncanny acceptance of sometimes quirky relatives earned him the best brother-in-law hat!

RIP brother,
Love, Cynthia and Marty

Marlene I will always have those good memories we spent together when our kids were very small at the little cookout's in my back yard with all our other mutual friends. May he rest in piece.

The guest book opens with the statement "What do you want to say about Bob"? What can I say about a neighbor as well as a friend that I have had the pleasure to known for many years.

On the Board of Apportionment and Taxation, Bob was very insightful and from who I learned a lot from. While he always calm in whatever he was saying, everyone listened.

As a friend and a neighbor, he was the as they say "The picture in the dictionary".

I will miss his conversations early in the morning when he retrieved his newspaper at the end of the driveway in his bathrobe and always with a smile on his face.

May God enjoy your company and watch over your family.

My prayers are with you!
