Robert Dobkowski Obituary

DOBKOWSKI, ROBERT STEPHEN Robert Stephen Dobkowski, of Northford, passed away December 15, 2013 in Yale New Haven Hospital after a long courage filled illness. He was diagnosed two and a half years ago with esophageal cancer but never lost hope for the future. He is the husband of Bernadette Libero- Dobkowski. Bob was born in New Haven February 25, 1943 son of the late Stephen and Angela Catherine Rudolph Dobkowski. He is the father of Jennifer Libero-Melchiore and Lauren Dobkowski and Robert Jr. Brother of the late Thomas Dobkowski. Loving grandfather to Andrew Dobkowski and Maverick and Mason Melchiore. Also survived by brother and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Nancy Pavone and nieces Sara and Rebecca Pavone. He was a member of the Tradition Golf Club and the Campania Club. He was an Associate Engineer for Pirrelli- Armstrong in the Research and Development Division prior to his retirement. Most recently, after his retirement, he was Equipment Manager for the Hopkins School. Robert lived for golf and enjoyed painting and animals. He was devoted to his family and loved nothing more than when his children, grandchildren and friends came to spend time with him. He was known for his humor and sharp wit. He loved spending time at the club with all his friends. His favorite times were watching his grandsons playing sports and being their number one fan. His funeral will leave from the IOVANNE FUNERAL HOME INC., 11 Wooster Place, Saturday morning at 10:30. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Michael’s Church at 11:15. Burial will be private. Visiting hours will be Saturday from 8:30-10:30am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, in Bob’s name , may be made to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405 or “Daniel Boffa’s Research” at Smilow Hospital for esophageal cancer research: Yale Thoracic Surgery, 330 Cedar St. BB205, New Haven, CT 06520-8062. Bernie and family, I am so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. I spent time with you in late Sept, and was so amazed at the strength the two of you and Jennifer and the boys showed dealing with the struggles of daily life. I am so glad Missy, myself, and Baby Jack had our time together with Bob. My love to all of Bob's & Bernie's family during this difficult time. Love you all.

The Dobkowski Family; I so very sorry to learn of Bob's passing. I attended grammar school (Edgar Stliles) and high schoolw/ Bob and was a good friend of his all those years. We played baseball together. He was a real nice person with a great personality. Stiles won the city championship when we were there. I think Bob was our third baseman, not sure. He was a very good ballplayer. I only ran across him once or twice as an adult many years ago when I worked on Whitney Ave.

I'd like to extend my deepest sympathies to Bob's family. I worked at Armstrong and had occasion to work with Bob, as well as play softball with him on one of the company's teams. I remember his great sense of humor, his willingness to help on work related projects and his love for golf. I look back at my time at Armstrong and there are a few people that jog some really good thoughts, and Bob is certainly one of them. RIP Bob.

I worked with Bob for ten years in the R&D Department at Armstrong Rubber Company on the Long Wharf. He was a great person to work with at Armstrong. I will always remember his great smile. To the family, my condolences.
