Robert Finn Obituary

Robert Finn
Robert Francis Finn of Plainville, died peacefully on June 15, 2024, at 88. Born August 10, 1935, in Springfield, MA, "Bob" was raised in New Haven by his late parents, Daniel and Catherine (Moriarty) Finn. He attended James Hillhouse High School and was a standout athlete from a young age. Bob was the CT one-meter springboard diving champion his senior year. Bob enrolled at Quinnipiac College in 1955. He studied business and played baseball and basketball. He was captain of the baseball team from 1957 to 1959 and captained the basketball team in 1959. In his senior year, he led the Braves to the SNECC championship in baseball and basketball. In recognition of his athleticism and leadership, Bob was inducted into the Quinnipiac University Athletic Hall of Fame as a two-sport athlete in 1983. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard Infantry Training Program and, completed his service commitment in 1962, at the Army National Guard in New Haven. Bob married his late wife, Elizabeth "Betsy" (Foy), in 1965. They lived in East Haven with their young family for nine years, during which Bob worked as a registered sanitarian for the East Shore District Health Department. In the late 1970s, he accepted the health inspector job for the town of Plainville, where he moved his family into the home he renovated in 1979. An avid sportsman and outdoor enthusiast, he long appreciated participating in many sports and played on several local teams. But by far, golf was the sport in which he invested the most time, energy, and effort in adulthood. Bob got his first hole-in-one in his late 30s and had at least nine others by the time he reached his mid-70s. He was a member of Pequabuck Golf Club in Terryville for 35+ years. Bob was particularly proud that he shot his age or better, at least once a year from his mid-70s until he was 86. His passing has left a permanent void in the lives of those who knew, loved, and valued his company. Bob leaves his three children, Christine (Rick) Yurko of Oakton, VA, Patrick Finn of Plainville, and Micaela (Brian) Fitzsimmons of Kensington; his four beloved grandchildren, Nicholas and Catherine Yurko and Michael and Elizabeth Fitzsimmons; and several extended family members and friends from all stages of his life. Besides his wife of 52 years and his parents, his sister, Patricia Ernest, his brother, Fr. Raymond Chrysostom Finn, and a nephew, Daniel Ernest, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 26, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 94 Broad St., Plainville. Committal services with military honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, 169 Farmington Ave., Plainville. Dunn Funeral Home of Bristol has been entrusted with Bob's final arrangements. Herb an I wish to send our deepest sympathy on the loss of your father, grandfather, uncle.
He was always there at all the parties an picnics, ... Christmas pot luck at his house, we all made a special dish, Rick made his yummy chili, ... on another event at Matt an Reginas after we ate all the ladies an I sat an played a game in the dining room, it was a cool day so the front door was open thats when Bobby decided to sit on the front steps an enjoy his cigar allowing the smell of cigar smoke to invade our space, .. the ladies were upset, choose me to tell Bobby, I approached Bobby telling him I was " just the messenger" sent to ask him to leave the area immediatly.
I hope Bobby's up in heaven enjoying a good cigar, ... so many great memories we have of Bobby, he was an amazing man,... he will always be missed but never forgotten!
