Rose Schierholz Obituary

Rose Schierholz
June 7, 1942 - February 23, 2023
Rose DiLella Schierholz 80, of Guilford, formerly of West Haven, beloved wife of 58 years to Robert E. Schierholz Jr., passed away peacefully on February 23, 2023, surrounded by her family in Yale New Haven Hospital St. Raphael Campus. Loving mother of Ryan (Kimberly) Schierholz of Marlborough, CT and Candice (John) Sette of Guilford. Grandmother of Anthony and Mia Sette, Brooke Freeman and Logan and Nicholas Schierholz. Rose was born in New Haven on June 7, 1942 daughter of the late Olga Prishwalko Rocco. Rose was a graduate of Hillhouse High School, and prior to her retirement, was employed by the State of CT as an Administrative Assistant at Gateway Community College. Rose had a passion for cooking and enjoyed watching cooking shows and trying new recipes. She loved plants and flowers and always made sure that her gardens were bright and bountiful with color. She was always up for a good game of pinochle. You could always hear her singing to all types of music. A fierce believer of family, she loved every minute spent talking and laughing with them, especially all of her grandchildren. Favorite vacations included trips to Disney World, Hawaii, the Bahamas, and a Caribbean cruise.
Her funeral procession will leave the PORTO FUNERAL HOME 234 Foxon Rd. (Rte. 80) East Haven, Saturday morning March 4, 2023 at 10:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. George Church 33 Whitfield St. Guilford, CT at 11:00. Interment will be private. Family and friends may call Saturday morning from 8:30 to 10:30. We were heartbroken to hear that Cousin Rosie had passed last week. Rosie was so kind to me when I visited New Haven as a young child. She let me play at her beautiful piano. I didn't know how to play the piano, but that didn't matter. I remember going to Savin Rock with my parents and Rosie. We always had a special time. Rosie would sometimes play dress up with me. She always made me feel like a princess. That was Rosie, a loving and lovely person. My sister Helen still remembers Cousin Rosie fondly. Helen still has the doll that Rose gave her when she was a little girl. Our mom always remembers how her niece, Rose, never forgot to send a card to remember a birthday or special holiday. Again, that was Rosie, a loving and lovely person. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. Much ❤ And May God Bless.
