SALVATORE DATTILO Obituary

DATTILO, SALVATORE MICHAEL “SIM” Salvatore Michael “Sim” Dattilo, 91, of New Haven, died on Monday, May 25, 2015, at Yale New Haven Hospital, St. Raphael Campus. For the past 69 years he has been the husband of Marion Giannotti Dattilo. Sal was born in New Haven on February 22, 1924 to the late Anthony and Anna DeCato Dattilo. He was an auto mechanic and owned and operated Bilmar Service in New Haven for many years until his retirement. He also is a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving his country during WWII as a Radar Operator in Belgium. Besides his wife, he is survived by daughter Sallyann (David) Katz of New Haven, a son John Allen (Stacey) Dattilo, Retired NHPD of Ft. Myers, FL, formerly of New Haven, three brothers, Anthony Dattilo of North Haven, Thomas Dattilo of Hamden and Albert (Ann) Dattilo of North Branford, a daughter-in-law, Joan (Jack) King of Wallingford, a granddaughter Kathleen Dattilo and three great grandchildren, John, Haley and Michael all of Milford. He was predeceased by a grandson, Keith Dattilo, three brothers, Michael, Joseph and Augustine Dattilo and a sister Frances Dattilo Speranza. Funeral will leave the EAST HAVEN MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 425 Main St., East Haven, 203-467-1708, Friday morning at 10:20 for a funeral mass at St. Brendan Church at 11 am. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Friends may call prior to the mass from 9:15 to 10:15. Sal’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Allan Rodrigues, both staffs at St. Raphael Campus of YNHH, and the Arden House, along with his home caregivers Bobbi and Denise for the compassionate care they gave him over the last few years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Brendan’s Church, 455 Whalley Ave., Att: Rev. Thomas Shepard, New Haven, 06511 or “In Memory of Salvatore and Keith Dattilo”, Send a Kid to Camp Fund, c/o Jewish Community Center, Att: Nancy Olins, 360 Amity Rd., Woodbridge, CT 06525.
