Samuel Pergola Obituary

pergola, samuel c. ANSONIA AND MILFORD: Samuel C. Pergola, 90, beloved husband of the late Mildred Vinci Pergola, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Christmas Day, December 25, 2011, at Birmingham Health Center in Derby. Mr. Pergola was born in Ansonia on Feb. 26, 1921, son of the late Anthony and Palma LoCascio Pergola. A lifelong resident of Ansonia before moving to Milford in 2002, he was employed as a life insurance agent for John Hancock Life Insurance until his retirement. Sam was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army having honorably served during WW 2. He landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy, France on D-Day in 1944 under the direction of General Patton. Later, he was wounded and captured by the Germans during the Battle of the Bulge and was a POW. He was awarded the prestigious Purple Heart and POW Medals. He was a member of the St. Michael's Men's Club and VFW in Ansonia. He is survived by a son, Robert C. Pergola and his companion Charles Hudson of Clayton, CA, a daughter, Pam Farina and her husband Albert of Milford, a sister, Jennie Cisto of Seymour, cherished grandchildren, Mark Farina (Lynn) of Glastonbury and Michele Vitiello (Silverio) of West Haven, two great-grandchildren, Mario and Natalia Vitiello, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Charles Pergola and a sister, Mary DeMelis. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Friday December 30, 2011, at 8:15am from the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. Entombment with U.S. Army military honors will follow in Mt. St. Peter Garden Mausoleum in Derby. Visiting hours will be held on THURSDAY FROM 4-7 pm.
