The world has lost another good man. Steve and I were roommates at Yale, a bit of an odd couple at first. He was a New Haven "townie" and I was a Memphis know-nothing. Steve proved to be one of the kindest people I have ever known and we have remained friends all these 63 years. His obituary tells the story of what a warm human being he was. I will miss him.

Steve was the type with whom you did not even have to do business on a handshake; your word was all that was needed. He was the type who looked for the person sitting alone at a bar function and then plop himself next to him, even if he knew everyone else in the room, just so that person did not feel alone. I always learned something from him every time we spoke-usually of much greater import than law. His very existence made you a better person. He will be missed.

There are no words for this tragedy. We met at Sheridan and have been friends ever since. He was the glue that kept our Hillhouse class together. He was one of a kind, and loved by all of us. I live in Wilmington, Delaware and wish I could be there, but I´ll be there in spirit. Sending love to Susan and all of the family.

We are shocked and saddened to hear of Steve's passing. He was so kind, and generous with his time, and in spirit. And it'll be my fondest memory listening to him proudly relate (with a twinkle in his eye) how he sneaked into Yale lecture halls to pursue classes and subjects he was interested in.
Our deepest condolences to Sue and his family.

Steve was as kind and steady as any man I knew. At the same time his curiosity, humor, and intelligence made him a marvelous friend and companion.
His memory will be a blessing, but oh how we will miss him.
