Thomas V Zingarelli, 79, of New Haven, was reunited in heaven with his parents on Friday, September 13, 2024. Tom was born in Waterbury on February 7, 1945, a son of Marie (Vendetti) and Joseph Zingarelli, of Waterbury. He is survived by several cousins.
Tom attended Merriman Elementary and Croft High School. He later attended Fordham and Fairfield Universities, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Theatre. He was awarded his Master of Arts degree in Theatre at Wesleyan University.
From 1969 to 1980, he worked for the Post Publishing Corporation as its Bureau Chief in Milford, Connecticut. He was employed by Fairfield University from 1980-2010, first as an Administrator in the Arts, and Producing Director of the Fairfield U Players Company. In 1986, he was named the first Director of the under-construction Quick Center for the Arts, where he remained as an Executive Director, until his retirement in 2010. Under his directorship, the Quick Center became one of the premiere regional theaters in Southern Connecticut and Westchester.
During his years at the Post and at Fairfield, Tom had a busy career as an actor and director, working in regional theaters across the country. He made his New York debut in REMAINS, a play written for him by a former theater student. He remained an active member of the professional theater, film, television and radio unions, SAG-AFTRA and Actors Equity Association, until his death.
Tom leaves behind to cherish his memory several cousins, Robert Hurlbut of Watertown, CT, David Hurlbut of Hillsboro, New Hampshire and longtime friend Patty Shea-Long and her husband Kerby, of New Haven, CT. He especially loved spending holidays with his favorite "nieces," Anna and Grace Hurlbut, of Cheshire, and Leah and Emily Gwiazdoski, of Waterbury. He will be truly missed by many.
Arrangements: A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024, 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Watertown, where Thomas will be buried with his parents. Chase Parkway Memorial, the Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, has been entrusted with handling Thomas' funeral arrangements.
