This is the day that you always knew would come, but you were really hoping that he would live on forever. It's just the kind of man that he was.
I first met Mr. Mott at the age of 6 when I participated in a softball clinic (during April Vacation) that was run by the Foran High Softball team.
When I reached 8th grade at East Shore, he became my science teacher. I was a good student, but to this day, he is the only teacher to ever kick me out of class. That is something I now look back on fondly because he made me an even better student.
The following year he became my coach. I was on JV briefly before moving up to Varsity. It seemed that he was tougher on me than some, but he knew that I could take it, and that it would make me a better ball player. Again he was right.
Due to shoulder issues (and eventual surgeries) I could no longer play ball, but I still wanted to stay a part of the team. That is when he became my mentor.
In 2001, (3 years out of high school), I assumed the role of Foran High's JV & Assistant Varsity Softball Coach. Mr. Mott came out of retirement to become the girls Freshman Coach. He was always a mentor & now he was my colleague. It was pretty surreal. He was still tough on me, but he knew that I could take it. He made me a better coach.
I only officially coached that one year with him (with my eventual return happening for the 2007 season.)
As you can see, Mr. Mott wore a lot of hats in my life. He made me a better student, a better athlete, a better coach, and a better person.
Above everything else, he was my friend.
It has been a number of years since I have seen him, but what he instilled in me will never cease.
On Monday, I will be in New Haven to attend his services. It will not be me paying the proverbial "final respects" to a great man. I will be there to say "thank you" because that respect I have for him will never go away.
I will never forget you, Mr. Mott. I hope you are having an awesome time on that ball field in Heaven.
Again, thank you.
Love always,
Kristin Berendt

Bill taught me how to swim at the Surf Club. Then he encouraged me to swim competitively on the Surf Club swim team. When ever I'd run into Bill after the Surf Club closed I was always greeted with a huge smile and a bear hug! May the many fond memories of Bill be a constant source of consolation for his family.

I remember Mr. Mott from East Shore. I was in the first class after it converted from Seabreeze, and he was one of the teachers I had. He was a great man, and a great teacher. Laughter was always welcomed around him. R.I.P. and thanks for the memories.

I remember Bill as one of my coaches at Milford Academy and also from the Surf Club. We often shared a laugh when running into each other over the next 30 or so years. Bill will be missed and remembered as a gentleman and friend.
