Adrian Vandervoort Obituary

GARDINER, N.Y. - Adrian J. Vandervoort, 85, formerly of Newton, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at the home of his daughter, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Vandervoort was born Sept. 10, 1922, in Noordwijk, Netherlands. He was one of 11 children of the late Johannes A. and Theodora C. Alkemade Vandervoot. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Cardinal Spellman Council No. 5800, and the 4th Degree Assembly and color guard. He was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Charles Church, Gardiner, and previously at St. Joseph's Church, Newton. He also was a volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels, Ulster County. He was the proprietor of Hahn The Florist, Cornwall-on-Hudson. He married Wilhelmina H. Van der Geest in February 1951. She died in October 1971. He later married Patricia Dennis. She died in December 2003. He was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by four daughters: Theadora Woodward and her husband, Wesley, of Pine Bush, Theresa Mann and her husband, Rodney, of Gardiner, Rosemary Budney and her husband, Christopher, of Wallkill, and Christina Mier and her husband, Len, of Newton. He is survived by one brother and four sisters; his grandchildren, Adrian Woodward of Newburgh, Julia Bradley of San Antonio, Texas, Konrad Mann of Cornwall, Lucas Mann of Tillson, Clifford Budney of Pine Bush, Christopher Budney of Wallkill, and Lenny Mier of Newton; and four great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be today, Aug. 7, 2008, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Copeland Funeral Home, Inc., 162 South Putt Corners Road, New Paltz. The funeral will be Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at 10 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Route 44/55, Gardiner. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery, Cornwall.
