Henry R. "Chic" Carr

NEWTON -- Henry "Chic" R. Carr, 88, of Newton, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, at Barn Hill Care Center in Newton.

Born in Hawley, Pa., Mr. Carr lived in Newton for more than 85 years. He was a graduate of Newton High School. A United States Army veteran, Mr. Carr proudly served during the Korean Conflict. He was the owner/operator of Modern Floors in Newton before his retirement.

Mr. Carr was a member of Harmony Lodge #8 F&AM, a member of the Liberty Towers Board for more than 30 years, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Newton, where he was a choir member for more than 50 years. An avid Yankee fan, Mr. Carr formerly played on the church softball team and also enjoyed playing golf with his best buddy, Clint.

The son of the late Henry B. and Pheobe M. (Heywood) Carr, Mr. Carr was also predeceased by his brother, the Rev. William Carr. He is survived by his wife, Alice J. (Pipher) Carr; his daughter, Sandy J. Carr and her fiancé, Matt, of Newton; his grandson, Rick Fichter and wife, Dana, of Mount Laurel; his great-grandson, Dylan Henry Fichter; and his brother, Elmer Carr, of Blairstown.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, in Newton Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton.
