Jane Kent Longaker

Jane Kent Longaker, 88, died on Wednesday, March 19, 2008, after a long illness. She was born March 19, 1920, in Allentown, Pa. and moved to Ridgewood, where she graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1937. She married Robert in 1942 and they shared their lives for 65 years. In 1953, they moved to Sparta from Tenafly and remained there for the next 24 years. Jane was a member of the Sparta Woman's Club, Sparta Library, Sparta Garden Club, a volunteer at the Newton Hospital and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sparta. Moving from Sparta, they made their home in Lafayette then moved to Newton in 1984. She will always be remembered for the love she shared with her family and her gentle grace. She was the adored wife of Robert, the cherished mother of Robin Freeman of Chesapeake, Va., and Joanne Houston of Wantage. She leaves four grandchildren: Kim Atkinson, Brian Redden, Jaime Mulligan, and Jarad Houston, and six great-grandchildren. Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St., Sparta was in charge of private arrangements.
