Kurt Dempe Obituary

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Kurt "Randy" Dempe regretfully passed from this life Monday, Jan. 9, 2017. He was 53.

Born in Hackensack and raised in Butler, Randy was a member of Local 472, Oakland, and Local 7, Binghamton, N.Y. He loved his trade, most especially drilling and blasting. His passion for explosives matched his explosive personality. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was an active member of the American Legion Post 80 and the Marine Corps League in Binghamton, N.Y.

He was predeceased by his father, Jack, and both of his brothers, Michael Dempe and Mark Dempe. He is survived by his mother, Peggy J. Dempe; sister, Kim Besset; daughters, Sarah Zoon-Dempe and Rachel Zoon; dear friend and mother to his daughters, Bonnie L. Zoon; nephews Jason Dempe, Josh Dempe, Chris Dempe and Matt Dempe; and nieces Stacey Kerstner and Michelle Kinney. His smile and laugh that endured through light and through dark will be so dearly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home, 483 Chenango St., Binghamton. Visitation from noon to 1 p.m. A gathering will be held at the American Legion immediately following the funeral. Please sign his guest book at hefuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in his name be given to American Legion Post 80, 76 Main St., Binghamton, NY 13905.
