Maiyah VanDunk Obituary

PORT JERVIS, N.Y. -- Ms. Maiyah VanDunk died on Saturday, June 13, 2009 in Sussex, the result of an automobile accident. She was 7 years old. She was born on May 7, 2002 in Denton, Texas, the daughter of Thomas VanDunk and Lindsey Warren.

Maiyah was a first grader in the school she loved, A.S.K. Elementary School in Port Jervis with her beloved teacher, Ms. Amy Bavoso. She was an accelerated reader and was going to receive a certificate for reading at a second grade level at her graduation next week.

Although you were only in our lives for seven short years, your spirit will remain forever. We'll always miss you, little one. All our love always, your family and friends. Maiyah was a very special little girl who could brighten up your day with just her smile. She was always happy and bubbly. Maiyah lived her life as a princess and will now live on in all our hearts as an angel.'

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

People tell us that in time the pieces will eventually come back together,
If this is true, though hard to believe now, there will always be a space,
The piece to which has your name on its place.
Tears have been falling now for so long,
When we think of your beautiful face it all seems so wrong
You had so much to look forward to and so much left to do
But God needed somebody in heaven who is as special as you.
Nothing is the same now and we doubt it ever will be
Your story has touched people, all ages, near and afar
On the night you were taken from us, in the sky was a lone twinkling star.
Was that you to tell us that you had reached home now?
And from life as we knew it, it was time for you to take your final bow.
We miss your voice and your infectious laugh
Now you have new accessories… a pair of Angel’s wings.
The world has lost a wonderful girl, a true and amazing Daughter, Granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend.
But maybe her goodness was needed to help and to heaven you where sent.

Warm Summer Sun

Warm summer sun,
Shine kindly here,
Warm southern wind,
Blow softly here.
Green sod above,
Lie light, lie light.
Good night, dear heart,
Good night, good night.

A Beautiful Angel, Not Ready To Go
Wants To Go Back, But God Says No
A Daughter, A Princess
Beloved By Family & Friends
A Meaningful Life That Suddenly Ends

An Angel Is What She Was Meant To Be
Now Think Of All That She Can See
Watching Over Her Family Night and Day
Saying I Love You In Her Own Special Way
In The Night We Sleep And In The Day We Cry
While She Watches Us All From Her Star In The Sky

Although I've Left And Now Walk Above
I Am Never Alone, I'm Wrapped In Your Love
What Can We Take From This?
Our Hearts Are Crushed
But Nothing Loved Is Ever Lost
And You Are Loved So Much.

Maiyah,
We Love You And Will Miss You Always.
You Were A Princess On Earth As You Will Be In Heaven.
Rest In Peace

Thomas & Lindsey,
We Love You And Are Here For You…You Are Not Alone And Can Call On Us Anytime.
Thoughts & Prayers,
Love,
Patrick & Tina

To Maiyah's Family,

"I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamonds glint on snow; I am the gentle Autumn's rain, when you awaken in the mornings hush, I am the swift uprising rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft star that shines at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there, I did not die."
We hope this poem brings you all comfort.

I have no words nor can I imagine what you are all going through. Maiyah will be missed by everyone she has ever met as I'm sure she had touched them in some way. I remember back in October we saw Maiyah, Bubba and Jordan at a park during a softball tourney Tom Tom was in and she was watching out for Lia and Jordan while they were playing on the playground equipment. She was an angel then and she is a guardian angel now. You all are in our payers
