Raymond E. Campbell June 2, 1945 - October 9, 2023 Ray was born at home in Easton, Washington. His parents were Charles and Virginia Campbell. The oldest of 4. His siblings are Sue Wagner (Lanny), Pamm Fite (Doug) and Don Campbell. Ray and the family moved quite frequently around Washington and Oregon. Ray was a three-sport athlete, playing football, basketball and baseball. He graduated from Cle Elum High School in 1963. Ray worked for Campbell Logging for a short time before starting his career as a 174 Teamster driver.
He was briefly married and had two daughters: Ronnette Welsh and Renee Tyler.
In 1967, Ray married Margie Tamplen. They had 3 boys: Matthew, Scott, and Todd (Joanne). They resided in Auburn, eventually moving to Buckley where all three boys graduated from White River High School.
Ray, in his early adult years, played on multiple traveling fastpitch teams. He enjoyed being a member of the White River School Booster Club. Cracking jokes, listening to Johnny Cash, hunting, and enjoying family and friends was his life. Ray retired from the Lonestar/Glacier NW in 2001. Ray and Margie moved to their dream property on the Naches River near Naches in 2005. They volunteered at the Nile Valley Days, enjoyed fishing and hunting together, and eventually opened an Airbnb on their property. Ray and Margie celebrated 56 years of marriage February 11, 2023...even while in hospice care, Ray joked he had been married for 141 years. Margie stayed by her husband's side until his final breath.
Ray was blessed with 11 grandchildren: Amber, Tony, Danielle, Eric, T.J., Tyson, Kendrick, Chase, Bronson, Julia, Eva and three great grandchildren: Eliana, Ethan and Axel. You would always see Ray at sporting events, recitals, taking them to the local pool, sitting by the fire pit, and always supporting his grandkids. He loved giving advice and singing his song "Chicken in the Pot" to cheer them up.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents: Charles and Virginia Campbell, and Son in law Dan Welsh.
A Celebration of Life was held Sunday, October 15th, 2023 in Buckley. A summer Celebration of Life will be held at their property in Naches on June 22nd, 1pm. For more information please contact Todd Campbell at
