Georgie Narburgh Obituary

NARBURGH

Georgie was born in Toronto, Canada on October 29, 1924, to Alice and Archie Blue, the youngest of three sisters. At the age of 14 she was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration, later diagnosed as Stargardt, which progressively robbed her of her sight until she became totally blind later in life. After high school, during WWII, she met a dashing RAF pilot from England named John Narburgh and married 2 years later on June 7, 1944. After the war she went to England on a Bride Ship with her three month old daughter, Carol. They then had their second child, Gavin, while living in Durham. Due to John's career with P&G the family moved to the Philippines and eventually to Cincinnati where they resided for over 50 years. Georgie enjoyed world travel, dude ranching, volunteering, writing, and spending every weekend at "The Farm" in Indiana. Georgie passed away on March 22, 2016 at the age of 91.Surviving are her children Carol Meagher of Cincinnati and Gavin (Beverly) Narburgh of Cincinnati, grandchildren; Jake (Mary) Meagher, Jamie (Allen) Verdin, Robin (Jeff) Campbell, Christopher (Kelly) Narburgh, Gordon (Sara) Narburgh, Molly (William) Fender, Evan Narburgh and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband John Narburgh, parents Alice and Archie, sisters Mori and Nancy and her son-in-law, Ken Meagher. John and Georgie were both anatomical donation body donors for the University Of Cincinnati Medical School. Memorial contributions in Georgie's memory may be directed to Cincinnati Assoc. of the Blind, 2045 Gilbert Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45202 or to Children's Hospital, 2750 Beekman St., Cincinnati, OH 45225 or The Seeing Eye, P.O. Georgie and John were a delightful couple who befriended my mother when she first moved to Cincinnati, in 1998. They met in the Writing Group at the Hyde Pk. Senior Ctr. , and quickly discovered they had a lot in common, as my mother was also a war bride. Georgie was a breath of fresh air in my mother's life, and she and John provided many happy adventures for my mother, including a trip to "The Farm".
Our sincerest sympathies to all of Georgie's family and friends.
