Corky and family,
Learning of Rick's passing brings a wave of happy memories.... from meeting a boy with a twinkle in his eye in a giant lecture hall on Bascom Hill, to introducing Rick to Groove Tub in Chicago and watching him build it into a Boston Institution, to listening to stories as his interests expanded to great heights from the boy on the hill....always happy, always full of life. What a loss!

I am so shocked and saddened at the loss of the "heart of our Class of '64". Rick had such a great sense of humor and humility and love for his school and classmates that it will be difficult for us to maintain that level of devotion and love that he had shown to the entire Class and to his beloved Walnut Hills. Rest in Peace my dear friend. You will be missed and remembered by all. You have left a legacy that will be impossible to duplicate.

My heart breaks for the family and friends who so loved Rick Steiner; and loved they did. For no one loved life more than Rick.
With his father's twinkle and his mother's passion, Rick threw himself into life with child-like gusto.
I'll always cherish the last time my son and I visited Cincinnati. We arrived to find a sweet note and two tickets to the Owner's box for the game that evening. When Rick arrived half way through (he'd never let on that he was a very busy man) the Steiner magic began. He captivated Whit, truly interested in who he was, what he thought and.....if he was a Red's fan. Whit was one of the lucky ones to experience Rick's humanity, selflessness, wit, intelligence, passion, charm, enthusiasm & curiosity first hand. I will be forever grateful for that weekend.
We lost one of the great ones.
My heart goes out to Ace & Duke, Corky, Jan and the the hundreds, no thousands, of people who experienced the magic of the big, loveable Rick Steiner.

I am shocked and saddened to hear of Rick's passing. Two words sum up who "Rickey" was, and those are "Brillant & Unique". With his chilhood friends they brought joy to the world through their productions of famous Broadway shows. With all his brillance of turning things to gold " North Avondale" was always home for him. I wasn't the closest of friends but he would always give me his time to visit. He would greet me at his Rose Hill office smoking a cigar in his pajamas. I would ask " why pajamas" and he would say he changed clothes before picking up his boys at school and they couldn't smell the smoke. Being in his office was a miniature museum of toys, sports and Broadway memories. His infectious laugh, smile, humor, care of family, friends, dedication to his sons, North Avondale bonds, summer camp in Minn. are the simple things that made Rick so unique. We go back to the softball days at Losantiville Country Club trying to hit his high arching pitches while Corky was telling everyone what to do. Rick had an infectious mellow way about him and as humble as they come. It is a sad day in Mudville. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten as he impacted so many lives. Rick, may you "rest in peace" and play on that "field of dreams" with all your great baseball heros. My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Steiner family during this very difficult time. North Avondale was a special place to grow up and those bonds and family relationships never die. God bless.

I was a high school friend of Rick. He never ceased to amaze me with his boundless energy, his humor, his vision. He was a special person through the years who gave not only of his time and advice, but also with his passion. I would look forward to hearing from him each year. I will miss him truly. He was a patron of the arts and a patron of life.

I have been in sadness and shock for hours, ever since I learned of Rick's death. We go way back to another generation or two, to my parents, Edith and Aaron Wiesen, to Phil Steiner, and Desiree, Rick's mom, whom he lost way too early in life. We were neighbors and friends. He came down to Chicago a couple of times when I was attending Lake Forest College and he was at Madison. We shared an ice storm, for those of you who know Wisconsin and Chicago weather. We played. Hanging out at the Rose Hill house as young adults with Rick and Eugene and others was really fun. Returning to one's roots in a safe warm atmosphere. Can't get much better than that. My son, Doug, knew Rick. He followed his gambling, which I know nothing about, and told me that he saw Rick on World Series of poker. And his passion on Broadway! No words. My mom and my son were treated to Big River when Doug was a boy. My daughter, Alexandra, and I saw The Producers together. And we shared the love of baseball. We enjoyed it together during Walnut Hills High School reunions, which we all enjoyed so much. It's hard to imagine the world without Rick.
