Albert Laque Obituary

Albert D. Laque, a native and lifelong resident of Boutte, LA passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the age of 84. Affectionately known as "Punk" he was born on May 18, 1934 in Boutte, LA. He is survived by his children, Albert "Bert" Laque, Jr. (Patti), Terry Laque, Louis "Jeff" Laque, II, grandchildren, Amanda Laque Burke (Ryan), Kristen Laque Picard (Mikey), Jared Laque, great grandchildren, Michael Picard, III and Nolan Picard; brother of Janice Laque Donnelly. He will also be dearly missed by his other "son" Cecil Lilly, his godchild, Sheila Cheramie Bourg, his canine buddy, "Ozzy" and the Breakfast Club. A special thanks to Robin Ray for the care and compassion shown in the past months. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Dorothy "Dot" Clement Laque; parents, Louis "Jeff" Laque, Sr. and Inez Babin Laque Donnelly; brother, Louis "Jeff" Laque, Jr. and sister, Inez "Sue" Laque McIntire. Also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Albert "Punk" graduated from Hahnville High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Punk worked at Shell Chemical in Norco for 11 years. He began his political career when elected to the Police Jury in 1964. This began his long tenure as a true public servant to the people of St. Charles Parish. In 1968, he left his employment at Shell to become the parish's first Parish Administrator from 1968-1976. Punk was the Commander of Administrative Services for the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office from 1984 to 1988. He was elected to his first term as Parish President in November 1987 and served from 1988-1992. He was then elected again to serve as Parish President from 2000-2008. Punk also worked in the District Attorney's office in Victim's Assistance from 2012-2017. Some of the many accomplishments during his tenure as Parish Administrator and Parish President includes the establishment of the parish seal (Parish of Plenty); the creation of the Recreation Department, Council on Aging and the Economic Development Department. Also during his tenure, the July 4th celebration at the Bridge Park was initiated and groundbreaking for the Eastbank and Westbank Hurricane Protection Levees in 1991 and 2002 respectively. Most significantly, during Hurricane Katrina, his administration worked diligently together with other parish agencies, business and industry to assist in the quick recovery of the parish during this trying time. Albert was a true public servant, always striving to assist others individually and the community with the goal of bringing people together for the common good in a cooperative spirit. His generosity and kind spirit touched the lives of many in St. Charles Parish and neighboring parishes. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Luling Council 2409. Above all, he deeply loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Here's to a "Life Well Lived" Punk. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at the Jerusalem Shriners, 1940 Ormond Blvd., Destrehan, LA. Visitation will continue at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Paradis, LA on Friday, November 2, 2018 from 8:30 an until 11:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Friday with burial to follow in St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery, (St. Charles Community), near Thibodaux, LA. To the Laque Family,

I was very honored to know Mr. Albert for many years. As the Advertising Director of the St. Charles Herald-Guide and a fellow Knight of KC Council 2409, I was able to work with Mr. Albert on many projects. He was always willing to provide a helping hand to the Boy Scouts, Hahnville High School and the Knights whenever he was asked. May God bless you and bring you home to be His servant now.

October 31, 2018

I am so sorry for your loss. May the God who "binds up the brokenhearted" and "comforts all who mourn" sustain you during this difficult time. (Isaiah 61:1,2). My prayers are with your family.

I am blessed to have known Mr. Laque and to have worked with him for both of his terms as Parish President. He taught by his example that all people deserve compassion and assistance in their time of need. He took his role as public servant seriously. He will be missed by many. Prayers for his family.

Uncle Punk, you were much loved by your family and community. You were a gentle man but strong when you needed to be. You cared for everyone, and helped in anyway you could. It didn't matter what time of the day or night. Certainly an example that everyone should follow. You will be missed.
Love you

I remember him as a down to earth gentleman when my children and I would go to gatherings at Mr. Somme's place. He had a great heart and had a way with making you feel like family even if you just met. The world needs more people like him and he will be missed by many. Prayers sent to all who loved and cherished him.
