Albertina Mongiat Obituary

Albertina "Mama" Betty Mongiat was born in Torviscosa, Italy on June 18, 1936, and on July 16, 2022 she was called to heaven. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Antonio "Papa" Mongiat. She is survived by both her children, Renato Mongiat and Viviana Mongiat, her fiancée Marion (Dook) Hess Jr., her daughter-in-law Deborah Mongiat, her grandchildren, Melissa Giafaglione, Vicki Mongiat and Alex Mongiat, her great-grandchildren Carden Griffin and Tony Giafaglione. Mama and Papa Tony immigrated to America, with their two young children, in 1962. They opened two successful restaurants, The Lido in 1969 and Lido Gardens in 1979, which closed its doors in 1992. Mama loved her rescue cats; they were her loves. She was known and loved by all who knew her. At her request, there will be no funeral services. A celebration of life luncheon will be at a later date. For condolences, please visit www.tharpsontheimerfh.com.

I have fond memories of Miss Betty and Mr Tony at Lido Gardens. My Dad loved to have lunch there and bring me occasionally. My Dad always had fun with Miss Betty and Mr Tony. Great people! God bless.

Viv, Roy & family, my heart goes out to you all in the loss of your beautiful Mama. I have the fondest memories as a teenager spending nights at your house and having the BEST meals with Betty & Tony. I loved them so much and they loved me back. I remember your mom used to say, "look at Gretchen. She´s so beautiful, she looks just like me" That used to crack me up, and I should be so lucky. Then your Dad telling mine he was going to claim me on his tax returns because I ate at your house so often. Well after all, your parents spread their love through their food. That´s why they had successful restaurants. Fun times, great memories. I hope you take solace in how much she was loved and that she had a long wonderful life. Even in the end, she had what many don´t, which was a loving daughter to care for her. She´s with your Dad now. Much love, and sympathy, Gretchen

I still can't believe you are gone... I'm so glad I was able to see you and talk to you as much as we did. You were beautiful both inside and out. Our family will never be the same...but I find joy in knowing that you and Nonno are finally together again, in love and peace for all eternity..
I love you Nonna
