Alfred John "A.J." Delaup

1955 - 2021

Alfred John "A.J." Delaup, age 65, a resident of Slidell, Louisiana was called to his eternal home on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. Son of the late Pershing Alfred and Mary Rayes Delaup, he was born on June 26, 1955 in New Orleans, LA. He was a graduate of the class of '74 at Holy Cross High School, where he lettered in football and wrestling. He attended Southeastern Louisiana University, where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He married his high school sweetheart, Cheryl (Neight) Delaup, in June of 1977. A.J. was a devoted husband and loving father. He was a man of faith and a member of Lamb of God Church. He loved to cook and host dinner parties to bring together those he loved. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends. A.J. was a diehard LSU fan and avid golfer. You could often find him on the golf course doing what he loved the most. He was a member of the Master's and Oak Harbor Golf Clubs. He will be remembered by most as Coach A.J. through his countless hours at S.B.B.A, S.Y.B.A., and S.Y.F.A. from which he made some longtime friends. He was always willing to help anyone in need with a great, happy go-lucky attitude and wonderful laugh and smile. He was extremely proud of his family, sons, and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 43 years and sons Adam (Lynn) and Aaron (Mary Beth); grandchildren Alex and Stella Camille; step-grandchildren Jeremy, Troy, Amber, and Preston; and step great-grandchild Dominic. He is also survived by his three brothers Arthur (Jean), Pershing (Anita), and Gerald (Laura); mother-in-law Doris Neight; sister-in-law Christy (Steve) Marino; brother-in-law Charlesray (Cathy) Neight Jr.; a host of nieces and nephews; and two lifelong best friends Rance (Karen) Rayes and Doug (Debbie) Southon. He is preceded in death by his father-in-law Charlesray Neight Sr. Arrangements for a Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be finalized at a later date.
