Ana Comaru-Schally Obituary

COMARU-SCHALLY Ana Maria Comaru-Schally, M.D., F.A.C.P. in Boston on the 5th of September 2004. Beloved wife, companion, collaborator and best friend of Dr. Andrew Victor Schally, proud daughter of Clodomir Cavalcante Comaru and the late Delmira Medeiros Comaru. She is survived by 5 brothers Claudemir de Medeiros Comaru, Clodomir Comaru Filho, Pedro Ewerton de Medeiros Comaru, Fernando Antonio de Medeiros Comaru and Marcelino de Medeiros Comaru and one sister Heraclides Comaru Lemos. She passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston on the 5th of September 2004 following surgery for thyroid cancer. Dr. Ana Comaru-Schally was a clinical professor of medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine, Director of the Hutchinson Endocrine Clinic at Louisiana Medical Center, as well as a consultant in endocrinology at VA Medical Center. She was an endocrinologist of the highest reputation, author of numerous medical articles and her expertise in endocrinology was widely admired. Her presence and kindness will be forever remembered by her family, colleagues, peers, patients and countless wonderful friends. Thank you to all, near and far, who have shown Dr. A.V. Schally and the Comaru family so much love and support during this sad and difficult period. She will be interred in Fortaleza, Brazil near her mother's remains. Friends and associates are invited to attend a memorial service to be held at the auditorium of Tulane University School of Medicine, 1430 Tulane Avenue on Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at 12 noon. Please no flowers nor donations.
