Anthony Vizard Obituary

VIZARD Anthony Joseph "Tony" Vizard passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the age of 88. Tony was a loving and devoted husband to his wife of 64 years, Emily Waguespack Vizard. Brother to the late Marion Bull, Helen Paine and Sister Sebastian Vizard. He treasured his in-laws, the late Frank "Bombo" & Birdie Ann Waguespack Bográn and the Bográn children. Father to six beautiful children, Suzanne Vizard, Beth V. Lambert (Hugh), Phillip B. Vizard (Ellie), Michael R. Vizard (Rebecca), Kevin A. Vizard (Cammie), and preceded in death by Patrick J. Vizard. He adored his eight grandchildren Palmer & Reyn Lambert, Sarah, Ross, Patrick, Taylor, Thomas, and Eliza Vizard. For Tony, family, friends, and his faith were the most important elements of his life. A devout Catholic, he was a wonderful, even saintly man by some individuals' estimation. Tony had nothing but love in his heart for all living things big and small. Tony brought a smile to the faces of those he met, friends or stranger, anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him could feel nothing short of blessed. A native New Orleanian, Tony loved its residents, food, music, and the land of Louisiana. He attended St. Stanislaus High School, Clemson, and Tulane. During WWII he served in the Navy as a 2nd Lt. in the Pacific theater. Tony worked in the forest products industry for the Great Southern Box Company, Continental Can, and Stone Container. Before being slowed by the debilitating effects of Alzheimer's, Tony enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, traveling with friends, and his volunteer work at St Anselmn Catholic church and Lakeview Memorial Hospital. A private Memorial Mass was held on February 11 at St. Mary's Chapel. Private funeral arrangements will be held at Lake Lawn Funeral Home. The family would like to thank the staffs and associated professionals of Ochsner Hospital, Home Instead in Covington & New Orleans, Poydras Home, and Hospice Compassus. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Poydras Home or the National Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor. To view and sign the guest books please go to www.lakelawnmetairie.com.
