Arthur Giles Obituary

Arthur 'Trey' Fielden Giles III passed away unexpectedly at his home on August 24, 2015. Trey's heartbroken family and friends are left with so many wonderful memories of him being an extraordinary father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor. He is survived by his loving family members, daughters Katherine 'Katie' Giles Hastings (Jeff) and Lauren Giles Mora (Brian); grandchildren: June Hastings, Giles Hastings, and Avery Mora; father, Arthur F. Giles Jr.; siblings, Claire Giles Mayor (Blair) and Virginia 'Ginny' Giles Poimboeuf (John); nieces, Ashley Poimboeuf and Jillian Poimboeuf; nephew Dylan Mayor and loving companion Mary A. Brown. He is preceded in death by his adoring mother, the late Ella 'Ellie' Giles. Trey was a lifelong resident of River Ridge. He attended East Jefferson High School where he was Grand Master of TKO fraternity and played the drums in the marching band. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from LSU, where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. He worked for 39 years as a consulting engineer for the oil field, gas plant and refining industries, and was an active member of the local ASME chapter. He was a proud member of the Jefferson City Buzzards Marching Club for 34 years. He was a diehard Tiger fan, part of the LSU Alumni Association, and held LSU Football season tickets for 39+ years. He was passionate about all things New Orleans: Music, Restaurants, Festivals, etc. But above all, family and friends were most important to him and he wanted to be wherever they were. He was the life of the party and loved and lived life to the fullest. Trey's legacy is that of a life not driven by material things but of his great love and loyalty to his family and friends, his most prized possessions. He will be greatly missed but his spirit will be carried on by all who knew him. His life will be celebrated on Saturday August 29, 2015 at Riverside Church, 9220 Jefferson Hwy, River Ridge, LA 70123. Visitation from 11am-1pm, services at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you patronize your favorite New Orleans restaurant with loved ones and pass a good time, in honor of Trey. Katie and Lauren,
So sorry to hear about your dad's passing. Of course, I originally met him when you were students at Ridgewood. Through the Malbroughs, we got to know him as a friend. He was such a kind man and always wore a smile. One of our traditions was looking for him in the Metairie Rd. St. Patricks' parade. We would have a beverage ready for him and he would leave some throws for the grandchildren. It was always fun chatting for a few minutes catching up. You and your families are in our thoughts and prayers.

To Mr. Trey's family, I only knew him since I've been here in the past 10 years. I am very proud & humble to know such a man. He probably had no idea how much his greeting & warm welcome each night we saw each other at Shimmy Shack lightened my heart after a difficult day or made me feel at home, after being far away from my family. He told me of family, loved ones & friends. I came to look forward to him sharing his time with me & always showing me respect & concern. He really was an amazing man. I know heaven has another angel & God had another plan for him. All of my liove, respect, prayers & sympathy to all of his family & friends. I will greatly miss you, my friend!

The saying goes "They may forget what you say, or what you do, but they will never forget how you make them feel."
With Trey its different, as each of us will always remember his unique sayings, none of us will ever forget how his every action was done with great joy, and all of us know how special he made us feel just to be around him.
Thank you Trey for a life that impacted so many.

To Trey's family, I know your loss is great and you are in my thoughts and prayers. I got to know Trey through my brother Pat. I'd tag along with Pat a couple of times at a few LSU football games and I was thinking Pat's friend might not want me along. I was totally wrong. Trey was so inclusive, loving and so much fun to be with. I'll never forget you, Trey. You will be missed.

On June 7, 2015 (this year), Trey came to the Blind Pelican to help my twin brother (Jeff) and me celebrate our 62nd birthday. The joy of seeing my old friend (40+ years) was immeasurable. To learn of his passing, the sorrow is equally immeasurable.
I celebrate his love of life; his love of family; his love of friends...no matter where I was in world, Trey stayed in touch. God bless him; God be with his family...
