Ashley Scriber Obituary

Ashley Barret Scriber passed away peacefully on Friday, March 18, 2022, at the age of 49 at his home in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is survived by his wife, Anina Legendre van Benthusyen Scriber and their children, Walter Watson, Dorothy Grace, and Julian Baldwin Scriber. He is also survived by his mother, Sharon Kaye Scriber Gates of Crossett, Arkansas; and his brother, Randel Kirk Scriber (Mary Catherine) of Pass Christian, Mississippi; and nine nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Jerry Leo Scriber; step father, Michael Dunn Gates; and older brother, Jerry Ladd Scriber. A native of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Ashley was very active in the Boy Scouts of America during his formative years. He was particularly proud of having attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He would carry that early love of scouting and outdoorsman ship throughout his life. Time spent fishing or a weekend hunting, especially duck hunting, were some of Ashley's favorite pastimes. It was a passion of his to take family and friends hunting on his farm in northern Louisiana. Although Ashley was not born in New Orleans, he fell in love with the city. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics with a concentration in Banking and Finance and a Master of Business Administration degree from Tulane University where Ashley was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and served as its Treasurer. After graduation, he remained in New Orleans and, over the course of his career, was employed at Legg Mason & Company, Howard Weil Labouisse Friedrichs & Company and Johnson Rice & Company where he spent the majority of his career in Equities Sales. He was also a member of several clubs and carnival organizations. Ashley was an avid sports fan. He loved Tulane football and baseball and was a big supporter of both programs. What probably brought Ashley the greatest joy of all was spending time with his daughter, Dorothy Grace, and watching his sons, Watson and Baldwin, play baseball. Whether it was cheering on Baldwin at Carrollton Boosters or Little League games or being Watson's biggest fan at Newman baseball games, Ashley was there and was so proud of his children. He was their number one fan. A celebration of Ashley's life will be held on Monday, March 28, 2022 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1329 Jackson Avenue. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am. Services will be held at 11:00 am, followed by a reception at the Parish House. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Trinity Episcopal School, Isidore Newman School, Tulane University Athletics, or Ducks Unlimited.

Nini, I was so saddened to hear of Ashley´s passing. He and I lost touch since I moved to Houston shortly after your wedding. However, I thought of him every duck season because we shared the same passion for waterfowl hunting. I always regarded him as a good friend; even after all these years. I always had a great time in his presence. I will miss him and have you and your family in my heart and prayers. I hope you find peace. God Bless.

From the time they were little boys, My son Brad and Barrett were friends.... Church, school, baseball, Seabrook, next door neighbors and hunting. Even though we haven´t seen him in years, we were Facebook friends and I enjoyed occasional messages through the years . I will miss those opportunities to touch base and I will hold the Scriber´s in my heart always

Dear Kay and Kirk and all the family, I am so sorry for the loss of your son and brother. I remember Barret so fondly as I watched him grow up with my sons, David and Mike, in our neighborhood, church and scouting. There are many wonderful memories and I pray for peace and strength as you grieve the loss of this good man.
