Aspasia M. Fernandez

1930 - 2016

We mourn the loss of Aspasia M. Fernandez. She was called home on Sept. 29th, 2016 after an unfortunate accident. She was born Sept. 18th, 1930 in Odessa, Texas. She was very proud of her Greek heritage.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Tina Matas. She leaves behind her daughter, Gabriella and husband Christopher of Newport Beach. Gabi was her pride and joy and she rejoiced in the visits she had with Gabi. She also leaves many beloved nieces and nephews. She leaves her beloved church family from Hillside Community Church. She was ever faithful to her lord and served on many committees there.
Aspasia was very active in the community. She was chairman of the recent 75th anniversary celebration for 20 Ands Club. She held the office of President in 1982-83, 1985-86, 1986-87, 1998-99, 2008-09 and 2009-10. Aspasia also belonged to the Strathmore Town and Country Club and served as President there also.
She was a loyal patron of the Barn Theatre, never missing a play. Her Special friend Sandy Achterberg was very helpful to her when she needed extra help.
We wish to thank Dr. Vemuri and the staff on 3rd floor at Sierra View District Hospital for making her brief stay as comfortable as possible.
Although we mourn her loss, all who knew her will celebrate her life. Well done Aspacia. You can rejoice with the Lord. We will all close our eyes and smile remembering your spunky spirit, your darling outfits, matching jewelry and of course the shoes.
Services will be held on Wednesday, October 5th at 1:00 PM at Myers Chapel. Pastor Steve Hopper will preside and a reception will follow the services at Hillside Community Church, 1091 W. Linda Vista Ave., in Porterville. Interment to be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to 20 Ands scholarship fund, P.O. Box 42, Porterville, CA 93258.
Aspasia requests that no one wear black. Dress in bright colors and wear your jewelry and celebrate her life.
We also want to think all her family, friends, and neighbors to numerous to name, for being a part of her life.
