August Claverie Obituary

CLAVERIE August "Gus" L. Claverie, Jr., retired Deputy Chief with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office died on Monday, June 3, 2013 after a lengthy illness surrounded by his family and friends. He was 73 years old. Gus served the citizens of Jefferson Parish with distinction during his 42 year career with the Sheriff's Office. He was a truly dedicated law enforcement professional who had the wisdom to do what was just, the integrity to do what was right, the compassion for the people he served and the respect from the men and women who worked for him. He was a graduate of Loyola University with a Bachelor of Art Degree in Criminology and a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Gus is survived by his loving and caring wife of 46 years Marie, who stayed by his side and took care of his every need. Gus was preceded in death by his father, August L. Claverie, Sr. and his daughter, Kim Ann Claverie. Gus is also survived by his three children, August L. Claverie, III, Tammie Lee Claverie, and Brian Michael Claverie (Melissa); his mother, Ernestine Rose Claverie; his sister, Melanie Rose Lemoine (Judd); three grandchildren soon to be four; and two great grandchildren, all who loved him dearly. And lastly by his companion, Jasmine, who was always on his lap and by his side. A special thanks to our daughter-in-law Shirley and the employees of St. Joseph Hospice, who provided support and compassion during Gus and Marie's time of need. Family, friends and employees of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office are invited to pay their respects to Gus and share with his family your memories about his life and career. Service in the Chapel of L. A. There are so many wonderful memories that I have of Gus

I loved his sweet personality and kindness. I loved the way he
Teased but made you feel special. I loved how he loved his friends and family. He just worried so much.
One of the most precious times I remember about him was when I bumped into him
running in the park one Saturday morning.

He stopped and shared his thoughts with me about the Lord. He said he prayed all the way
Around the track thanking and telling of his love for God and it made him feel so happy.

There is no doubt what so ever, that he is with his Jesus.

I thank God for having the opportunity of knowing him and my sweet friend, Marie.

Marie loves him and the Lord so much and gives all she has. What a wonderful example of a loving
Wife. I love you Marie and will keep you and Gus in my heart forever!
Love,

Nancy Samrow

My thoughts and prayers to Ms. Marie, Christian and family. I am so sorry for your loss.

Heaven got a True Angel..
Mr. Gus was one of the most loving, caring, kind, and good hearted man I knew. I am thankful that I was able to be a part of his life. He was a wonderful grandfather to my son Christian aka "The Dude". Mr. Gus was a strong believer in the Catholic Faith, he taught me to Pray to St Joseph and St. Joseph will give you what you ask for in the way it was meant to be. I will forever love Mr. Gus for all he has done for me and my son. He will never be forgotten and will live on through his grandchildren because he loved them so much. He will always be their Guardian Angel.
Rest eternally in the arms of Baby Jesus... Until we meet again I will keep you in my heart.
