Barbara Henderson Obituary

Barbara DeVore Henderson, born November 14, 1950, bid farewell to this world on March 13, 2024. She was a woman of profound impact, leaving behind a legacy marked by her unwavering love and dedication to her family and her commitment to education. Barbara was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana where she graduated from L.B. Landry High School in 1968 and attended Southern University in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. After her years at Southern University, Barbara entered the workforce as an intake clerk at Charity Hospital where she worked for several years. As a young wife and mother, Barbara changed her employment to education which better suited her new family life. Barbara worked at several schools in New Orleans and the New Orleans Truancy Center, but her most treasured time was nurturing the students at L.B. Landry High School. Barbara's journey through life was marked by the profound losses of her loved ones. She is preceded in death by her beloved mother, Ethel DeVore, her father, Elijah DeVore, her sisters Ethel Herring, Myrtle Fountainberry, Leola Harrison, and her brothers Harold DeVore and Lloyd DeVore. While their absence weighed heavily on her, it was a testament to Barbara's strength that she carried their memories with grace and resilience. To those who knew Barbara, she was a beacon of kindness, warmth, and unwavering support. Her presence illuminated the lives of all who had the privilege of crossing paths with her, leaving an indelible mark of love and compassion. Barbara leaves to cherish her memory her beloved children, Tiffany Henderson Carpenter (Tyrone), Tracy Henderson, Michelle DeVore, and James Henderson III, (Emily), four siblings, Theresa Johnson (Herman), John DeVore (Agatha). Donald DeVore (Joyce), and Kenneth DeVore (Elouise), four grandchildren, Skylar Marchand, Kaden Carpenter, Armani Dauphin, and Jacey Henderson. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Relatives, friends of the family, Pastors, Officers and Members of Fisher Community Church, The LB Landry family and the class of 1968, Eleanor McMain High School, Sunny Acres Elementary, Shreveport, LA, Krewe of NOMTOC Queens Club, Southern Self Storage and UMC Hospital are invited to Celebrate the life of Barbara D. Having Barbara as a co-worker and friend at L. B. Landry was a gift from God to me! She loved the students and worked untiringly with me, not only in the classroom, but also assisting with senior activities, including Prom, Class Night, Graduation, and Yearbooks! Barbara was an all-around person who could be depended on with her immense wisdom, words of advice and encouragement, cooperative spirit, and good nature.

I will truly miss hearing from her, over the years, to uplift my spirits, when I least expected it.

God rest her soul in Heavenly peace, and let the perpetual light shine upon her. I pray for Tiffany, Tracy, James (Jay), Michelle, the grands, siblings, and for her entire family's peace, comfort, and strength!
