Barbara Jackson

Barbara Buirl Jackson, aged eighty-one, entered eternal rest on November 21, 2022, at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans. She was a native resident of New Orleans; however, she spent years living abroad and her recent fifteen years of life in DeSoto, TX. She earned a Bachelor of Arts, from Xavier University, two Master of Art from Webster University in St Louis, MO and attended the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS as a doctoral student. She is the daughter of the late Johnnie and Augustine Bridges, Sr and preceded in death by her son, Brent Calice Jackson; husband, Billy G. Jackson; father, Warren Buirl; grandmother, Elmer Carter Calice; and sister, Elmira Bridges Yancy. Barbara leaves to cherish her memories a brother Johnnie Bridges, Jr. (Embra); sisters Wanda Bridges Conner (Larry), Dr. Elizabeth Bridges, and Dr. Dwan Bridges of Pasadena, CA. Other relatives to cherish are nephews, Harvey W. Yancy, II and Gerron Lee of Houston, TX, and Aaron Jorge Conner; nieces, Katie Yancy (Kevin) and Kellie Lee of Houston, TX, Elizabeth Bridges Townsend (Duane Sr.), and Dr. Amy Augustine Conner; great-nephews, Duane (Beau) Wilson Townsend Jr, Duke Augustine Townsend, great-niece, Amira Rayne Yancy of Houston, TX, and many more relatives and friends. The Homegoing Celebration will be Friday, December 2, 2022, at Rhodes Funeral Home 3933 Washington Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70125, with visitation at 9:00 a.m. and service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery 4000 Norman Mayer Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70122.
