Betty Palmintier Obituary
PALMINTIER Betty May Brownsberger Palmintier, who went to her rest after an extended illness at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, November 19, 2006, at Maison de Lafayette. Born and raised in the New Orleans area, Mrs. Palmintier graduated from the Eleanor McMain High School, and studied ballet for several years. Soon afterwards, she met a young medical school student, Dominic John Palmintier who became the love of her life and her husband of over 55 years. After World War II, they lived in Germany and Austria, where Dr. Palmintier served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. It was there that Mrs. Palmintier developed a life-long love of classical music and fine arts. She moved to Lafayette in the early 1950's, and had six children. She was the consummate ""Mom'', actively participating in her children's activities through sports, music, clubs and fraternal organizations. Her cooking was nothing short of legendary and her recipes are featured in several regional cookbooks. When her youngest started grammar school, Mrs. Palmintier studied interior design, and obtained her designer's license. Over the years, she owned and operated the Hallmark Interiors and Gifts and became one of Acadiana's most celebrated interior designers, being named ""Lafayette Business Woman of the Year'' in the 1990's. She loved to share her passion for design with others, teaching Potpourri courses on the subject for many years at the former U.S.L. Throughout her lifetime, Mrs. Palmintier was extremely active in the Lafayette community. She helped breathe new life into the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra in the 1990's, serving as its President from 1992 -1993 and as a member of its Board of Directors for many years. She served as President and on the Board of Directors of Vermilionville and was on the Board of the former Anglo American Art Museum (now the LSU Museum of Art). She was also a member of L'Avenir, the Lafayette Parish Medical Auxiliary, the Lafayette Women's Auxiliary, the Episcopal Church of the Ascension Altar Society, and the Junior League of Lafayette. Mrs. Palmintier is survived by her six children: one daughter, Patricia Pritchard and husband, Mark of Lafayette, LA; five sons: Jon S. ""Skip'' Palmintier, M.D. and his wife, Joan of Richmond, VA., Michael C. Palmintier and his wife, Laura of Baton Rouge, LA, David J. Palmintier and his wife, Sally of Lafayette, LA, James P. Palmintier of Lafayette,LA and Daniel C. Palmintier and his wife, Nicole of Lafayette, LA; her grandchildren: Dominic II, Joshua and wife, Erin, Blake and Ellen Palmintier, Bryan Palmintier, Julia Palmintier, Andrew, Sarah and Rebecca Palmintier, Kari P. Price and husband, Jason, Ginny Moneer and husband, Bobby, Lindsay Pritchard and Benjamin Kommor; and her great-grandchildren: Cameron Palmintier, Isabella Palmintier, Cole Moneer, Tobin and Elias Price. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Dominic John Palmintier; her parents, Charles C. Brownsberger and Gladys Eleanor Schoenhardt; and her brother, Robert Dennis Brownsberger. The Palmintier family extends its' heartfelt gratitude to Phillip Papillion and the caregivers of Amian Health Services, as well as to Pat Richard of Hospice of Acadiana and to Mrs. Palmintier's enduring friend, Ann LeJeune Bowen. The Palmintiers are grateful for the loving, gentle comfort provided to their mother during the final years of her life. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Lafayette, LA. Entombment will follow at Fountain Memorial Gardens, Lafayette, LA. Visitation will be held at Martin & Castille Funeral Home, 330 St. Landry St., Lafayette, LA from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, with Recitation of the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service. Monsignor Glen Provost, Pastor of Our Lady of Fatima will be the celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the services. Lauren Baker and Jason Pennington will play the ""Meditation'' from the opera ""Thais.'' Other musical selections for the services will include Schubert's ""Ave Maria'' and ""The Lord's Prayer' sung by Paul Baker.
