Bob Huibers Obituary

Bob J. Huibers passed away at home on March 30, 2016 at 77 years of age from cancer.  He is survived by his beloved companion of 26 years Sylvia Ann Card, daughter Sherry Huibers Kuhn, son-in-law Henry Kuhn III, stepbrother Gary Karns and two closest friends Janos (Johnny) Szegleti and Joseph Munoz.  He also leaves behind his cherished pets Paco, Katrina & Smokey.   He is preceded in death by his mother Elma Clausen Sloan Huibers Karns, father Petrus J. B. Huibers, stepfather Jim Karns, brother Joseph F. Sloan, sister Jeannette Sloan Licciardi Calhoun, sister Lala Huibers Pilet and Jerry Card (Sylvia's son) whom he cared for and thought of as his own. He is also survived by his many, many nieces, nephews and friends. Bob served his country as a PFC in the US Army stationed at the Pentagon.  He was a Mason and retired from National Life Insurance Company where he worked as an insurance agent.  Bob was a New Orleans musician in the 50's and 60's and played several instruments with great bands and musicians such as The Nobels, The Majestics, The Crowns, The Jokers and The Traveliers. He was a member of NOMA.  Bob loved his music but more so he loved his family and friends...he was Uncle Bobby to everyone whether related or not! Friends and family are invited to celebrate Bob's life (you know he loved a good party!) and share their memories of him on Friday, April 8, 2016 from 9 am - 1 pm at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie. LA.  He requested to be cremated so there will not be a viewing. Online condolences may be offered at www.gardenofmemoriesmetairie.com.
