Brian DeCuir Obituary

Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, "The Lord is my portion; therefore, I will wait for him." The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord (Lamentations 3:22-26). Not--"How did he die?" But--"How did he live?" These are the units to measure the worth of a man as a man, regardless of birth. Brian Joseph DeCuir, Sr. was born November 12, 1949 in New Orleans, LA to the late Louise and Herbert DeCuir, Sr. He entered heaven on February 3, 2024 at East Jefferson Hospital, Metairie, LA. He was also preceded in death by his siblings- Elinor DeCuir Bushnell and Herbert Anthony DeCuir, Jr. After suffering a massive stroke, surrounded by his loving and devoted family, Brian is finally at peace resting in the arms of Jesus, his Lord and Savior-he heard the call, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). And--"How did he play his God-given part? Not--"What was his church?" Nor--"What was his creed?" As an honors graduate of Joseph S. Clark in 1967, he then matriculated at Dillard University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics in 1971. He completed further study by attaining his Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration in 1982. His passion was teaching, and he was an outstanding educator committed to helping students achieve greatness in and out of the classroom. In addition, he worked in a wide array of positions, such as Jewelry Salesman, Business Manager, and educational entities, such as Principal, Assistant Principal, Math & Science Coach, Math Tutor and Math Professor. Ultimately, he dedicated over 50 years of service to the Orleans Parish School Board by sprinkling joy, compassion, and knowledge on the minds of countless students and colleagues. He was a God-fearing man who exhibited Godly and Christ-like traits-love, kindness, fairness, selflessness, thoughtfulness and humility. He prayed and attended church regularly, specifically at Corpus Christi-Epiphany Catholic Church. Also, he had weekly rosary prayer with close friends and church members. Not--"What did he gain?" But--"What did he give?" Not--"What was his station?" But--"Had he a heart?" Was he ever ready with a word of good cheer, To bring back a smile, to banish a tear?" Brian touched the lives of many-his family, siblings, cousins, friends, co-workers, students, church family, members of civic organizations in Orleans Parish and surrounding communities. The impact he had on so many-both near and far-are immeasurable. He was a dynamic and outstanding educator who was deeply committed to developing the talents and gifts of each individual student and the many professionals he interacted with in pursuit of educational excellence. Brian also had membership in several groups, including the church, professional organization and a bowling league. But--"How many were sorry when he passed away?" Brian is survived by his children- Brian DeCuir, Jr. (Jennifer) of Marietta, GA.; Jason DeCuir, Sr. (Lauren) of New Orleans, LA; Vernon Frilot, Jr. of New Orleans, LA; Dinah DeCuir and Dyanna DeCuir of New Orleans, LA; five very special grandchildren- Joshua Frilot, Sr. (Ophelia); Jason DeCuir, Jr.; Caleb Frilot; Londyn DeCuir and Marley DeCuir; two great grandchildren- Joshua Frilot Jr. and Olivia Frilot; Brothers- Eric DeCuir (Beverly) of Lithia Springs, GA.; Gregory DeCuir, Sr. (Phila Mae) of New Orleans, LA.; Sister-In-Law- Linda Poche DeCuir of Houston, TX and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Also, left to mourn his loss is godchild Tierney DeCuir Ivey (Wendell) and special friend Ms. Abbie Fazande. For no one is cast off by the Lord forever. Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love. For he does not willingly bring affliction or grief to anyone (Lamentations 3:31-33). The Measure of a Man Not--"How did he die?" But--"How did he live?" Not--"What did he gain?" But--"What did he give?" These are the units to measure the worth of a man as a man, regardless of birth. Not--"What was his church?" Nor--"What was his creed?" But--"Had he befriended those really in need?" Not--"What did the sketch in the newspaper say?" But--"How many were sorry when he passed away?" I just wanna give my condolences to Mr Brian and his family. As a former student of JCFA East. I got to know him as he was assisting along in my math class. And when I graduated. I read this message from him in my card; Go on and show the world Paul, show the world "You are the Man".
When I discovered the parameter of your accomplishments, I was pleasantly surprised and honored that I knew you.
Paul, it's such a pleasure that I had the opportunity to assist along your way to completing your requirements for graduation!
You've already succeeded in the accomplishments in media, internet/websites, and entrepreneurship.

He is a true definition of a man who gave, cared, loved, and nutured his students. He didn't just teach me, but also my brother's. He's very good friends with my aunts. Mr DeCuir served as my homeroom teacher at Mc Donogh 35 Senior High School for 3 consecutive years; he left that school before my senior year. So, unfortunately he wasn't present for my graduation year. He loved talking to me about the latest in professional sports news. Brian and I worked as administrators of Mildred Osborne Elementary School.

Brian truly cared about the children we had an opportunity to impact. I remember how he would go on duty in the mornings and ensure that the students would have the opportunity to eat. He knew that this would enable them to have a successful day.
He would take the time to instruct and discipline students that would be sent to his office.

He was a caring gentleman and supportive person to the students, staff, and parents!
