Dr. C. Chrisman Wilson

WILSON Dr. C. Chrisman Wilson, a Tulane University Associate Professor of Psychology, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2011 at the age of 67. He received his Bachelors Degree from Western North Carolina University, his Masters of Science from Radford University and PhD from University of South Carolina. He was on the faculty at the University of Texas for two years prior to coming to Tulane. Chris joined the Tulane faculty in 1981. He served as director of the School Psychology PhD program1992-2004, and Department Chair 1987-1992. His service (which spans several pages of his curriculum vitae) was diverse and distinguished. Most recently, Chris was Chair of the Institutional Review Board (Human Subjects research) and Chair of the Senate Committee on Athletics. Other committees over the years include interim director of the Center for Education, Dean's Honors Scholar admissions, Grievance, Newcomb Childcare Center, Health Professions, and Academic Standing. In 2005, Chris was named Distinguished Newcomb Fellow for his devotion to the academic life of Newcomb College. Publically, his service was evident as one of the two faculty hooders are Newcomb commencement. But "behind the scenes" he was integral to numerous committees and far-reaching in his teaching. Nearly every psychology major over the past 20+ years elected to take Abnormal Psychology with Chris. Every semester, the course enrolled 150+ students. Chris continually added video and sound bites to keep the course engaging to each generation. He recently developed a new undergraduate course in clinical interventions, a sign the he remained the consummate teacher. Chris' leadership style was admired by others; he was always well-grounded and gave others good advice as a leader. Chris was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and the Southern Yacht Club. He is survived by his beloved wife, Gail Cannon Wilson, PhD and his son, Evan Chrisman Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Evelyn Chrisman Wilson. Funeral Services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1329 Jackson Ave., on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. with visitation at the church beginning at 9:30 A.M.
