Carol Roberts Obituary

Carol Andrews Roberts – dedicated wife, mother of two, loving grandmother, and devoted friend to many – passed away on December 7, 2022, at the age of 74. Carol was born to William and Virginia Andrews in New Jersey and raised in Okinawa, Japan, and Honolulu, Hawaii. She often said she was blessed to grow up close to beautiful beaches. Before her senior year, her family moved across the world to Algiers, Louisiana. Carol graduated from Martin Behrman High School in 1966, then attended Louisiana State University, earning a bachelor's in secondary education followed by a master's in educational leadership. Carol began teaching English in 1970 and joined the Belle Chasse High School faculty in 1972, where she taught for 25 years. She was beloved by her students and developed a reputation as a caring but firm instructor who put students first. Carol's students, friends, and co-workers will remember her for wearing a pencil above her right ear – poised to correct and improve anything that came her way. One of her joys in teaching was leading the Beta Club, which she sponsored for 15 years. Many students credit her for their lifelong success, noting that she had more confidence in them than they had in themselves. After her teaching career, Carol became a school administrator and was promoted several times, eventually serving as Plaquemines Parish's Assistant Superintendent of Schools. After retiring from the Plaquemines Parish School Board, she worked at the Recovery School District to reopen schools in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. She later began a post-retirement career in the Plaquemines Parish Clerk of Court's Office where she served in many capacities, eagerly sharing her invaluable administrative skills, emphasizing improving technology. She was promoted to Chief Deputy Clerk of Court, serving in that capacity under two administrations until her recent retirement in 2020. In the past two years, she has worked with the School Leadership Center in Jefferson Parish, coaching and mentoring school principals. A respected servant leader who placed the needs of others before her own, Carol enjoyed working with others and solving problems, always with a positive attitude and zest for life. Selflessness and generosity were two traits that highlighted her personality. Her kindness and humor touched anyone who knew Carol. She was also a woman of faith and worshiped at Woodland Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, a community she loved dearly. Over the years she served in many different leadership positions, including moderator of the deacon board. She had a profound sense of gratitude for God's gifts in her life, and deep love for Jesus. Carol loved vacationing at the beach and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a great conversationalist, an intellectual, a voracious reader, and a wonderful friend to many. Carol is survived by her husband, Joe, their children, David (Damie) Roberts and Stephanie (James) Kling; her four grandchildren, Isla Roberts, Luke Roberts, Virginia Kling, and Bennett Kling; her sister Judy (Buzzy) Wild, sister-in-law Alison Roberts, and brother-in-law Jimmy Roberts. A celebration of life service will be held at 2pm on Sunday, December 11 at Woodland Presbyterian Church, 5824 Berkley Dr, Algiers 70131, https://www.wcnola.org/. In lieu of flowers, Carol's wishes would be that you would donate to Crestwood Day School: https://www.crestwooddayschool.org/.
