Charles Camel Obituary

Sunrise February 21, 1941 - Sunset April 23, 2022. Rev. Charles Edward Camel, also known as "Booga Man", transitioned to his heavenly home on April 23, 2022 at the age of 81 at West Jefferson Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife Ophelia Camel and his ex-wife Tmarrase Campbell, the mother of his children and their son Charles Edward Campbell Jr. (deceased). He leaves to mourn his children Arlene Christian (Ricky), Jerome and Ronald Campbell (Tomeka) and Idella Camel. His stepchildren Lyndia Williamson (deceased), Earnest, Wayne and Darryl Ranson. His sibling Larry Reed, Eva Johnson, Jessie Johnson (Shanna), Kenneth Johnson (Debra), Ruby Becnel (Glenn), Shirley Johnson (deceased), Veronica Jackson (deceased) and Andre Johnson (deceased). He is survived by 16 grandkids, 8 great-grandkids and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Johnson, Aaron Camel, and Jessie Johnson Sr. Also preceding him in death are his grandparents, Rev. Charlie and Eva Knapper. He worked as a welder for American Marine, Geo Source, Bollinger and Avondale Shipyard before retiring. Rev. Charles Camel Sr. was an active member of the St. Mary's Baptist Church in Marrero, LA. He will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 2, 2022 at Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero.
