Charles E. Gudger

1927 - 2022

Charles E. Gudger, formerly Executive Vice President and General Manager of Universal Match Corp, located in St Charles Parish passed away after a long illness on May 21, 2022, at the age of 95. He was born March 6, 1927 in McDowall County, WV and was a resident of Harahan from 1969 till his passing. He served in the Navy during WWII in the Pacific region attached to Cub 19. He was a charter member of the World Trade Center, Past Commander of the American Legion post 397, Chef Degare of Voiture 1616, past judge advocate American Legion second district, the VFW Post 3267 and a member of DD coffee club. Mr. Gudger travelled extensively and in addition to managing the match company he was on the board of directors of Beale Industries, Kingston, Jamaica, Eddie Industries, Pembroke Canada, and consultant to DD Bean Co., Jaffrey, New Hampshire. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Beverly (Kit) Morley Gudger, his daughter Donna Duke of Durango,CO and her husband Philip, his granddaughter Jennifer Perez, great grandson Charles Perez, step son Wayne C. Morley, step daughter Karen M. Bradshaw and her husband Thomas N. Bradshaw. He was preceded in death by Lou Ann Gudger, his former wife of 50 years, and daughter Janet Elliot. Charlie lead a full and interesting life as a Jack of many trades, and had many accomplishments in his 95 years. He was kind-hearted and unfailingly selfless in taking care of his loved ones. His dry sense of humor and gentleness made him a joy to be around. He will be sorely missed by his wife, his family and friends.
