Charles Joseph Monier Sr.

MONIER Charles Joseph Monier, Sr., Ph.D., a native of New Orleans, LA and a long time resident of Thibodaux, LA, died Monday, August 17, 2009, at age 76. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lora Jane Akers; four sons: Dr. Charles J. Monier and wife Melanie, Michael G. Monier and wife Tami of Thibodaux, LA, Daniel T. Monier and Samuel Greer of Atlanta, Georgia and Dr. Paul L. Monier and wife Dr. Richelle Monier of New Orleans, LA; nine grandchildren; and two sisters: Janis M. Pecquet of Port Allen, Louisiana and Catherine M. Henry of New Orelans, LA. Other survivors include two maternal aunts: Mary M. Janusa of Slidell, LA and Josie M. Noe of Metairie, LA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents: Charles Jacques Monier and Jennie Marrione Monier of New Orleans, LA; two brothers-in-law: Judge Philip N. Pecquet and Russell J. Henry; and one niece, Melissa Henry. Dr. Monier taught at Nicholls State University for many years. He received a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from LSU, and M.S. and Ph,D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Mississippi State University. He was a registered professional Mechanical and Electrical Engineer and was also a licensed land surveyor. He served as an officer in the United States Air Force. The family wishes to thank Journey Hospice, Grace, Eleanor, Brenda, Peggy, and Antoinette for their loving care. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until funeral time at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral, Thibodaux, LA on Thursday, August 20, 2009. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment in the St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, masses are requested or donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
