Charles Herbert Neuman

1937 - 2023

Charles Herbert Neuman, 86, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, in Slidell. Charles, better known here as Chuck, was born February 8, 1937, in Los Angeles, California. An alumnus of CalTech and the University of Illinois, he married Roberta Harrison in 1958 and was her dutiful husband until her passing in 2014. Southern California was his initial home and where he rose to senior research physicist at Chevron, where his father had worked as a rigger and surveyor. Together, Chuck and Roberta raised two adopted children, Ken and Kathy from infancy. In the early 80's when the children were grown, the couple decided that Chuck would take a temporary position in Louisiana and Slidell eventually became home for the next 40 years. He frequently traveled for work, but this was home. In retirement his love of the area, the rich history and the people here in Slidell and greater South Louisiana kept him deeply involved in local civics and local clubs. He was a Rotarian, Tennis fanatic, Bridge Club member, Square Dancer, Parishioner at his church, philanthropist, family Bayou tour guide, armature historian and consummate optimist. Life was not without its challenges for him and others here, but he would tell you that the beauty and the people are worth the extra effort just to be here. He is survived by his children, Ken and Kathy, seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
