Charles J. Newberry III

1938 - 2023

On Wednesday, December 13, 2023, Charles J. Newberry, III, loving husband and father passed away at the age of 85. Born on March 24, 1938, in Algiers, Louisiana, he was the son of the late Charles J. Newberry II and Cecilia Eugene Bayhi Newberry. Charles attended Holy Name of Mary graduating in 1957. He was a good student and athlete. He played football, baseball, and track. His Sr. year Holy Name won the state championship. He not only enjoyed the win but continued to enjoy a life-long friendship with his teammates and their coach. Charles attended Southeastern Louisiana University for 2 years and again formed friendships that lasted his lifetime. Charles met the love of his life Marie Louise Stuntz Newberry (Susie) in high school. They married in 1959 and lived most of their 62 years in Jesuit Bend up to her death in 2022. Loving father of Cynthia Newberry Koch (Bart), Brian Newberry (Cathy), Mark Newberry, Christopher Newberry (Trudy), Kevin Newberry (Michaela), Keri Newberry Armstrong (Murray). And proud grandfather of Baron Koch (Whitney), Lee Koch (Ana), Spencer Koch (Taylor), Dustin Newberry, Tina Newberry, Charli Ann Newberry, Blake Newberry (Kelsey), Eric Newberry (Desiree), Madison Newberry, Zachary Armstrong, and Miranda Armstrong. He is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren. He loved being a grandpa. Charles spent most of his career at Taylor Diving in percurrent. He was an avid sportsman and loved farming. He touched many lives and made lasting friendships over the years. Charles will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a true gentleman, kind, grateful and respectful to all. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 20th from Noon until 1:30 P.M. at Mothe Funeral Home Algiers,1300 Vallette St, Algiers, LA 70114. A blessing of his life will be celebrated at 1:30 P.M. with interment to follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Arrangements by Mothe Funeral Home.
