Charles Douglas Pinell, of Slidell, LA passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2022, in Slidell, Louisiana. Beloved husband of the late Cecilia Elizabeth Pinell for 56 years, father of Charles F. Pinell of Denham Springs, LA; Stephen D. Pinell of Slidell LA; David J. Pinell of Lamar, AR; Carla R. McGowan of Sparta, MO, and Karen A. Pinell of Sequim, WA. He was also survived by eight grandchildren: Charles A. Pinell of Herndon VA; Jeannine Alphonse of Slidell LA; Stephen J. Pinell of Virginia Beach, VA; Lindsy Pinell of Benton, AR; David J. Pinell of Benton, AR; Ryan B. McGowan of Springfield, MO; Matthew C. McGowan of Sparta, MO, and Vincent D. Pinell of Denham Springs, LA. In addition, he was survived by seven great-grandchildren. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Julius and Martha Pinell; brothers, Richard Howard Pinell, Ulysses Lee Pinell and Curtis Pinell; and sister, Martha Ann Adams. He was survived by two brothers, James K. Pinell, and Harold D. Pinell. Charles entered this world on September 4, 1930 in Lottie, LA. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1947 and served for 22 years. He spent the bulk of his Navy career with the Submarine Force. His career as a submariner included serving on the USS Medregal (SS-480); USS Argonaut (SS-475); USS Raton (SSR-270); USS Shark (SSN-591) and the USS Carp (SS-338). His outstanding service was recognized with a multitude of awards and ribbons. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1969 and his post Navy career included 30+ years in the private sector. He was a resident of Slidell, LA for the past 46 years. He enjoyed gardening and was a voracious reader. Memorial gifts may be made to one of the below organizations: 1).
