Charles Riley Obituary

Charles 'Chuck' James Riley, Jr. went to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 3, 2023, at the age of ninety-nine surrounded by his family. Chuck was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Bourgeois Riley; a son, Michael C. Riley; his parents, Isabelle and Charles James Riley; his sister, Mary Belle Keane; and brother, Thomas F. Riley. He is survived by: his children including daughters, Mary Beth Wilcox (Tommy) and Shannon R. Barr (Ray), and sons, Daniel J. Riley (Jackie), Christopher J. Riley and Timothy P. Riley (Ann); grandchildren, Steven D. Riley, Matthew J. Riley, Chad A. Webre (Emily), Kristi Wilcox Arth (Bill), Kacie Wilcox Duncan (Hunter), Brianna N. Riley, Bridgette Barr Cupstid (Rusty), Sean Riley and Evan Riley; and eight great-grandchildren.

Chuck was a veteran of World War II. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army and was deployed in the European theater. After returning home from the war, he was employed by South Central Bell where he retired after 40 years of service. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and had a life-long love of fishing, shrimping, and camping, but his greatest love was his family. He had an enthusiastic sense of humor and was always quick with a joke. He always had a smile and enjoyed visiting with family, neighbors, and friends. Chuck was always friendly and never met a stranger. After retirement, one of his joys was weekly coffee on Friday mornings with his fellow retiree's "Over the Hill Gang." He was a long-time member of St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church in River Ridge, Louisiana. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernian Irish Catholic American organization. Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home is managing the funeral arrangements. The service will be on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, Louisiana. Visitation will be at 11:30 a.m. with a funeral mass at 1:00 p.m., followed by interment immediately thereafter. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to The National WWII Museum in New Orleans, website: www.nationalww2museum.org/give or St. Matthew Apostle Catholic Church, 10021 Jefferson Highway, River Ridge, Louisiana 70123, or a charity of your choice.
