Charles Schenck Obituary

Charles Hilary Schenck, Sr., passed away peacefully at his home in Chalmette, Louisiana on May 5, 2024. Charlie was born January 14, 1930 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Marcella Schenck and his loving wife of 63 years, Hazel Dale Schenck. He is survived by his children Charles Schenck, Jr. (Raechel), Charlene Goynes (Chad), Mary Bonomo (Nicky), and Douglas Schenck. Grandfather of Patrick Adams, Christine Smith (Adam), Noel Lewis (Devin), Angela Bonomo, Nicholas Noonan, Josie Bonomo, and Nick Bonomo Jr. Great-grandfather of Adyson Robin, Charlotte Smith, Charli Adams, Kennedi Adams, Leighton Adams, Gino Holmes, Emme Holmes, Kyler Lewis, Gabriel Jackson, Isaiah Bonomo, Henry Bonomo, and Bella Bonomo. He is one of eleven children, all of whom he loved dearly. Charlie is a veteran of the Army, Air Force and Navy. He served in the Korean War while in the Navy and was awarded the Korean Service Ribbon with One Star, the United Nations Service Medal, and the China Service Medal. Throughout the remainder of his military career he was presented numerous awards, decorations, and commendations for his dedication and leadership. He attained the rank of Sergeant Major (SGM) and retired from the Louisiana National Guard on July 14, 1988 with over 40 years of service. He spent the majority of his career employed by the State of Louisiana Military Department in numerous positions within Facility Engineers, Jackson Barracks, New Orleans, Louisiana. He retired from the State of Louisiana in 1987 as the Facility Engineer Installation Manager. Charlie loved to travel, dance, work on projects, and spend time with family. He will be remembered for his generosity, caring spirit, and love of family. The family would like to thank Guardian Angel Hospice for their compassionate care. A memorial for family and friends will be held at a future date.
